i ride aluminum bars, but i totally understand the appeal of steel bars. i think if i were doing a lot more heavy sprinting at the track i might actually switch to steel. they do add weight to your front end, but sometimes that extra stiffness is way more important.

you just can't perform as well if your trying to pull away from a pack on a velodrome and you start feeling your bars goin' "wonk wonk wonk wonk..." aside from the slight loss of power transfer, its a little bit self-intimidating. ...maybe that doesn't make sense.

i dunno. steel bars have their place in the track world. ...i mean, unless you can afford carbon.

I'm really surprised to see all the Moyers and not a single Vanilla yet.

I always wonder that about people on the track with quill stems.

And yeah, it's about a 50/50 split at my track with the regular road bars vs track bars. Actually, I see more of the Deda aluminum pista bars than anything.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the Phil Wood "Big Fix" (which I can't find a good pic of right now and don't know if it's an over $2000 bike, but it sure looked like it to me.)

if i had to guess, i'd guess people chose frames that fit and that they liked (particularly the fit), knowing that that would be more important than the performance benefit of a threadless setup.

i like threadless a lot, but i'm not gonna give up my pogliaghi to aquire it.

If I had a pic of a certain PDX kid's Vanilla track bike, complete with Phil Woods, NOS Araya Rims, Sugino Grand Might cranks and a Chris King HS (not to mention the nicest chrome lugs I've ever seen, and the V on the track end that Vanilla loves to do), I'd definitely post it.
