This isn't the one that he actually broke the record on, it is from one of his early attempts

He broke it on this

I think the UCI realized that this bike was silly and that there would be no limit to how crazy you could make that back wheel so they retro'd the rules to make it a rule that the wheels have to be the same size, so Eddy's record still stands

Seriously? That is nuts! Here is another one, I guess it is a $4000 bike with those wheels:

Dunno what Don would charge for this but I would bet it is north of $2000 with this setup:

Another shot of the Huffy/Serotta, just cuz I think it is a beauty:

This one goes in the super-rare category:

I think the Eddy Merckx hour bike is one of the most perfect things I've ever seen. I don't know why, I just love it. That Masi is beautiful too.

That's not entirely true. The UCI split the record up into the "UCI Hour Record" and "UCI Best Human Effort," with the Hour record requiring a bike with traditional geometry and traditionally spoked wheels (and probably a few more rules), while moving all of Mosers' crazy-ass bikes to the "Best Human Effort" category.

Also, the record hasn't stood since 2000, when it was bested by Chris Boardman, and then again in 2005 by Ondřej Sosenka. Which reminds me...

Cool, thanks for clearing that up, I wasn't sure of the specifics.

Here is some more eye candy, I dunno what the Ti bike is but it is a custom frame, so I guess that makes it pretty pricey

bonechilling 08-18-07 09:33 AM

WTF with the Merlin's pedals?

andre nickatina 08-18-07 08:46 PM

he was going for as much titanium as possible, hence the titanium seat and funny looking pedals.

Kilgore_Trout 08-19-07 10:51 AM

what are the specs on that crazy looking moser?

andre nickatina 08-19-07 11:27 AM

That green Masi has ridiculous tire-to-frame clearance in the back... the tires almost brushing the seattube and the hub is in the middle of the track end! Jesus.

er...uh... yes he did. Chain tension means **** if you aren't backpedaling. Most racers run a more slack chain because any tension=resistance

putting out big watts on slack chain can be ****ty. (if your frame flexes)

Sorry, what you actually meant that - YOU like to thank all the people that made the bike and which you paid for by sporting their logo.

K thx.
