This isn't the one that he actually broke the record on, it is from one of his early attempts
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...z/Moser84a.jpg He broke it on this http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...z/100_2179.jpg http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...z/100_2180.jpg I think the UCI realized that this bike was silly and that there would be no limit to how crazy you could make that back wheel so they retro'd the rules to make it a rule that the wheels have to be the same size, so Eddy's record still stands http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...RecordBike.jpg |

http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...complete-1.jpg Dunno what Don would charge for this but I would bet it is north of $2000 with this setup: http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1.../Donwalker.jpg Another shot of the Huffy/Serotta, just cuz I think it is a beauty: http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...anchEz/HTR.jpg This one goes in the super-rare category: http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...7b8c8d6a_o.jpg |
I think the Eddy Merckx hour bike is one of the most perfect things I've ever seen. I don't know why, I just love it. That Masi is beautiful too.

Also, the record hasn't stood since 2000, when it was bested by Chris Boardman, and then again in 2005 by Ondřej Sosenka. Which reminds me... http://www.sosenka.cz/archiv/2005/m17.jpg http://www.sosenka.cz/archiv/2005/m23.jpg |

That's not entirely true. The UCI split the record up into the "UCI Hour Record" and "UCI Best Human Effort," with the Hour record requiring a bike with traditional geometry and traditionally spoked wheels (and probably a few more rules), while moving all of Mosers' crazy-ass bikes to the "Best Human Effort" category.
Here is some more eye candy, I dunno what the Ti bike is but it is a custom frame, so I guess that makes it pretty pricey http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...Track-bike.jpg http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...chEz/MS007.jpg http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...sanchEz/tu.jpg |

http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...sanchEz/tu.jpg Tam has lots of cool bikes. One-off Merckx Hour replica http://chainedrevolution.com/CS/phot...9/640x449.aspx Pino Morroni custom titanium bottom bracket. http://www.chainedrevolution.com/ima...inobbshell.jpg |
WTF with the Merlin's pedals?
|
he was going for as much titanium as possible, hence the titanium seat and funny looking pedals.
|
what are the specs on that crazy looking moser?
|
That green Masi has ridiculous tire-to-frame clearance in the back... the tires almost brushing the seattube and the hub is in the middle of the track end! Jesus.

He certainly didn't do it with that slack ass chain tension.

er...uh... yes he did. Chain tension means **** if you aren't backpedaling. Most racers run a more slack chain because any tension=resistance
