I'd hate to see how this guy treats the honor system.
|
all of your posts suck too...you just suck.

I leave my front QR wheel unlocked from time to time. I'd be really pissed if someone decided to steal it to "teach me a lesson". I'd be more pissed than if someone stole it to buy some crack.
|
wtf?
|
legal theft! hahahahahaha!
|
yeah, was it considered that the person might have somewhere to go when they find that their wheel is "stolen"? i mean, if it happens it happens. but i would be more pissed if someone wanted to "teach me a lesson" and make me late for something, etc.
yeah. you should have a timeout for even bringing this up. go to your room and think about what you said. |
Ten minutes later, a driver sees him riding a little to close to the center of the lane, decided to clip him to teach him a lesson. 30 minutes later, a thread is started about it. :)

We have enough nannies in the Government who think they know how to run our lives better then we do. Not much I can do about them and the IRS thugs who steal for them. If I am stupid enough to leave my bike unlocked, tough ****. If I catch someone messing with it to teach me a lesson a busted kneecap is the least they can expect.

op is a penis!

I've left my fixed "free-locked" (front wheel krypto'd to frame) for short periods many a time, back when I was messengering that's what everyone did. Of course, it is a little different when a person is leaving it out for long periods of time. And people walking around with a bike locked to itself kinda standout. Good way to get yourself arrested.
Leaving a note, I suppose I could see doing that... taking property that belongs to someone else, for whatever reason, we have other words to describe. |
I have a QR front and I leave it unlocked all the time, its a p.o.s. so I dont see the need. I could imagine making a big deal if these were really nice wheels, but other wise who cares. I would rather have a crackhead steal my **** than some dumbass kid trying to prove a point.
|
you shouldn't do that.
|
I love the wooden lock that always comes up in GISes
|
There is the other side of the coin--- my guess is the OP's seat (and post) and bars are not locked up. All it takes is a hex wrench and I could teach a lesson or two about leaving parts so available. It would be hilarious!

May be the most F--ked up idea I have heard in ages.... and you debated for a whole 20 minutes. You got problems... I bet if you had touched that wheel, the owner that was probably watching from a vantage point was just waiting for some sap to try this, itching to bury his/her lock into you brains...
a whole 20 minutes talking yourself into why it is appropriate to steal someone else's stuff is pretty low... |
I ride around campus and see poorly locked bikes all day. some with cables so thin i could clip through them with scissors if i wanted to. but i guess theft isn't a big problem at my school. I see the same bikes locked in the same places day after day..
|
i'm still lolling @ "after what is probably legally theft".
and such as. |
Use your own u-lock and lock their wheel up to their frame for them.
|
why is it everyone's business to teach someone a lesson"? how about just leave a note? instead of being pissed of and without a bike, theyll still be with a bike and still have learned a lesson.
|
I dont lock my bike up properly either....I have a rear sugino carbon disc that is never locked, and a front all-NJS wheel that is never locked to the frame. I also have brooks/nitto jaguar that someone could take with a allenkey, plus the rest.
I just dont care enough to worry about this all the time. I only lock my bike in nice steezy areas that are lit up though, and in Japan. People pinch bikes here too though, including my beautiful 'black standard' tombo/mama with 650Y pegs! I loved that girl. If the frame is still there, I can shed a tear and start shopping around for some nice new wheels. I am running out of reasons to buy more stuff. |
Today, Iwas sitting and watching my bike from afar. I saw some dude checking it out for about 20 minutes. I wasn't sure if he was going to steal it or not but felt like smacking him in the skull and shoving my foot deep in his ***** for even thinking about it....just to teach him a lesson of course.
Tomorrow if he looks at it again, should I do the deed? |
pure stupidity
why why why?? |

I'm amazed at the groupthink on this site. You all seemed to ignore some very key parts of my original post
1) I didn't steal the kid's wheel. I didn't want the kid's **** to get jacked up; wasn't going to keep the wheel, and had planned to leave my number so he could get it back. In any case, I didn't do any of these as I decided all in all it was a bad idea and not really my job to teach the kid a lesson. 2) I left him a note about how to lock up your bike. When you have an expensive wheel such as the Mavic, leaving it unlocked in a city is just a bad idea, I'm sure he'd be really pissed if someone stole it (again, one of the reasons I didn't). 3)I DIDN'T STEAL IT.I didn't steal the kids stuff, you all seem to be on my dick about it, but none of you really seem to consider the fact that I didn't do it. I thought about it, and with good intentions. No malice was in my mind at any time. Crime of compassion? All in all, get off of my ****. I didn't do it, wouldn't do it. Next time you all get on someone's ass about something he/she didn't do, consider their intentions and the outcome before you all neglect to think and just jump on the bandwagon. |
