What does the fact that the bikes are freewheels have anything to do with the story?

And that's why you don't steal people's wheel to teach them a lesson!

You mean you taught me a lesson not to teach lessons?

I think you misunderstood. The OP meant "free" wheels ...as in no cost to him. Thieves apparently think of other people's **** as free to them if its not welded, chained or anchored down.

Does anyone think there should be a sub subforum for these discussions? Like a culture/ethics of fixed gear and singlespeed bikes? Maybe I'm just bitter because no one responded to my request for user reports of Level components hubs....

Anyway, I spent about 20 minutes debating whether or not to **** her to make a point. I ended up not. Tomorrow if she's still there should I do the deed?

It's not **** if she blinks twice for yes. ;)

I wouldn't go around stealing things to make a point. That's just asking to get arrested, or beaten up if you get caught in the act. "I was just trying to make a point." isn't going to hold up too well. More like "I was just trying to make a buck."

Foamer 09-07-07 02:49 PM

if somebody stole my bike last week to make a point...they will never be able to ride a bike again when I'm through with them...

Why not just lock your bike in the back of your car?

marcusprice 09-07-07 05:14 PM

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ted/sor3-9.gif this guy took my bike.

eddiec33 09-07-07 05:17 PM

dude all these people hatin... ANYONE HEARD OF ROBIN HOOD. nuff said, however i will elaborate; if you were to see a small puppy wandering the streets aimlessly with a pouty face and no collar would you want to give it a better home and take care of it??

In conclusion, the wheels are the puppies, they need real love - not pseudo ownership. Take pride in your bike, lock that shattuck up, and moral of the story is.....

It's cool to steal people's shattuck if they askin for it OH OHHHHHH

Maybe these guys can help teach the guy a lesson :)

Gordiep 09-07-07 07:32 PM

If I ever saw someone doing what the OP proposed, I'd beat them into a ******** coma with their U-lock. What does the OP or anyone else care how someone locks up their bike? Don't be so bloody arrogant.

Doooooddd....noooo waaayyyy. Thanks for the head's up, bra...

parkerlewis 09-08-07 11:42 AM

just steal it already..

rtucker 09-08-07 02:06 PM

I think everyone is missing the obvious point here, if you see two bikes with unlocked quick-release front wheels it ISN'T okay to steal them, it IS okay to switch them. Especially if they come out at the same time and accuse each other of stealing their wheels.

It was my final lesson.

a [roughly estimated] quote from ira ryan, pdx framebuilder:

"in my opinion, all bike thieves should have their balls nailed to the floor of a burning house. the words are harsh but the sentiment is right."

personally i think bike thieves should be chained to a parking meter and beaten with ulocks and chains by every messenger in town, until he is dead. Then hung up for all to see with a bike sign "I was a bike thief, then they caught me"

or else drag them live thru the alleys and streets until there is nothing left but a bloody lump.
