Fix a wheel and sell another
Hey everybody, I would like help with the following problem:
I've got a stock Fuji track bike (formula fixed/free to alexrim). I want to replace the back wheel with my Surly fixed/fixed to OpenPro wheel, which I understand is better than the wheel I'm currently using. Is this true, or at least not a downgrade?
The stock wheel only has about 50 miles on it. What would be a reasonable asking price to sell it off on CL/eBay?

Bump.
I deleted the wrench question, as I can just bring the wheel to the shop and buy the right wrenches. However, any help pricing the stock wheel? Please?

I just sold the wheelset from my Windsor Hour (same as yours) on Boston CL for $75
They went in a day. I probably could have gone $100 for both, maybe.
$150 gets people a quality wheelset from Bicyclewheels.com, so why would they buy yours for a similar price?
I'd say try $50. The stock wheels are no great shakes. They're OK, but you can get a similar set off of Bike Island for like $89.

damn. seventy-five bones?
my lbs tried to sell me the SAME wheelset, actually taken off one of the dudes who works there's windsor hour. they tried to get a buck fifty for them. screw that.
you'd be surprised how much kids will pay for just a fixed rear wheel, no hassle, just to get riding. i'd say try for around sixty or seventy-five. you may be surprised.

I got my rear wheel (in Feb of '05) at the Monstertrack swap meet. $25 for a surly fixed/fixed laced to a Mavic MA3, with a semi decent half used tire mounted. It has never needed truing once and has had the living crap beat out of it.
So I would say anything over $50 for your rear would enter rip off territory. Could you get more? Probably. However, make a few less and pass it on to someone that wants it. Thats better for everyone.

definitely a great upgrade. the mavic open pros are very light, i'm sure lighter than the alex rims. the surly hub will last you forever as well. i'd expect $80-100 for a wheelset like that, but that depends on your market; a friend recently got $160 for a set of moderately used track wheels that they're slapping on the new bianchi pistas.
