Much of the decision to buy certain hubs seem to hinge on the buyer's concern for exclusivity, looks and brand loyalty than anything else. The typical "Phils last forever" rhetoric doesn't really work in the context of $75 hubs sets that offer excellent bearings, durabilty and wear life.

With that said, I want some Phils or the new Zipp hubs.

Those Gran Compe hubs seem nice... but I don't know about the price. I got some hi-flange Dura Ace's for $30 more. Oh well if they're looseball, they're not going to be ridden in the rain anyway

Those Zipp's are way gaudy.

So get Miche, Formula, Gran Compe, or Phil Wood depending on your funds.

I have Phils, they are really nice. I have not had them long enough to say they are bomb proof.

OT---

I noticed last night that my front and rear hubs have developed some slight lateral play. Is this simple fix?

To fix lateral play just tighten the cones down.
