Sealed Bearing Track Hub

Can anyone recommend a high flange flip-flop sealed bearing track hub that has solid walls (as opposed to slats)? Does formula only make high flange with slats? Are the Surly hubs worth $75 for the rear? On a related note, does anyone really swear by Phil Woods? Is a rear hub really worth $200+?

surly hub flanges aren't as high if that matters.

Suzue ProMax SB are the sealed bearing version of the non-sealed NJS ones. These hubs arent being made anymore but can still be found on the web pretty easily.

I've got a PW rear... works quite nicely, but I can't say I have had anything notable with which to compare; the track hub I had before was a cheapo...

He wants ones without holes of some kind in the sides of the flanges. All the Formula high flange hubs ive seen (including the ones on my wife's bike) have odd shaped holes in the flanges. How about yours?..cause i hate those holes.

No holes in mine. I *think* mine are Formulas. They are stock ones on a 2007 Pista. It's super smooth and spins forever.

^not formulas.
Well maybe they are formulas, but they'd be some kind of OEM formula hub that you can't buy anywhere. My guess would be Joytech/Novatec

Diacompe Gran Compe are another option

the suzue SIL-SP (Junior) hubs above are not that well sealed. And if you're using "Sealed" to mean "cartridge bearing" then they're not that either. Loose ball.

Level Components. The flanges go to 11. But you'll need their cogs.

Yeah my hubs are laser with the Bianchi logo - definately some kind of OEM arrangement. They spin better than $600 Mavic Ksyriums wheelset. I googled joytech and novatec and I don't see a resemblance to mine.

Business Cycles appears to have high-flange Formulas, fixed/fixed and fixed/free, with solid (no cut-out) flanges. See here:

https://businesscycles.com/trcomp.htm#hubs
https://businesscycles.com/thub-formula.htm

Large flange track hubs with traditional cup/cone bearing balls, solid flanges:

TH30/TH32 pair: 36°×36°. Duplex rear hub ("fixed/fixed"). Silver or black anodized. $69.50
TH30/TH31 pair: 36°×36°. Duplex rear hub ("fixed/free"). Silver or black anodized. $69.50

I don't know too much about track hubs admittedly but mine look just like these silver ones. At any rate, I don't know if the bearings are sealed either.

Bikes: Univega Gran Premio, Custom MTB/SS/Commuter, Vintage Miele Fixie under construction

those are really nice looking. Ive seen that pic somewhere else, I thought that they were the 'new' track hubs by Formula.

A. Miche's are not flip-flop. (Though I do think they're great)
B. I don't think the stock Pista hubset are Formula's. They look a lot like Suzue Jr.'s.

Nope, those are loose ball/cone & cup bearings. I know the OP was looking for sealed bearing, but it looks like you can't get them AND solid flanges from Formula.

nope.

i've held both in my hands, and the quality of the gran compe is a bit higher.
i just bought a set of the "carnival" gran compe hubs... super smooth.

also, if you look closely, you can see the difference in machining.

Bikes: yes

gran compe hubs are not formulas. i too have held and closely looked at both. it didn't really take thorough examination to tell that they're different hubs.

When you made this comparison, did either of the hubs seem "better" in any way? Say, in terms of finish, machining, bearing smoothness, or anything else that caught your eye?

I get the feeling that the OP is actually asking about cartridge bearing hubs, right?
