i'm just getting into fixed gears
i ride bmx daily and i've been really interested in fixie riding and commuting. i want any suggestions you can give to a beginner and any complete bikes you can recommend. i've been thinking a pista but all i've heard is they're really ****ty made and whatnot. i was also considering an iro but i don't have the time and money to rebuild a bike right now. so tips and stuff please!

if you ride bmx i'd suggest track geometery because you don't need anything to be easy if you've got the skillz.
if you want to save money everyone likes bikesdirect.com (shill) bikes but
if you are looking for something ready made i'd go with a pista.

If you're from a BMX background and intend to do tricks, I'd look into some of the bikes now being put out by BMX framebuilders. There's BMW (I think) and some other frame (look at the Interbike thread, I'm sure it'll be a recognizable name). Anyway, they're a slight bit heavier, but have a more track style geometry than a conversion and the tubing is oftentimes the same as for their BMX frames so you can do all that crazy **** I know you BMX kids do.
Other than that, I'd look into trying to find a setup with 36h wheels and possibly a stronger V section rim. Have fun with it. Some friends of mine got into it and after destroying countless forks just screwing around, they are now trying to squeeze me off my turf (road riding). Not that it's a bad thing but you folks tend to do all the neat tricks with half the effort, then you want to ride 50 miles at 22mph. It's unfair.

The BMWs look fun, fun, fun. The KHS Flite 100
has a geometry that is closer to a track bike
(if you like low fork rake and steep headtube)
than some of the other starter bikes, unless
I'm mistaken.

Pista vs Steamroller?
I've been looking at a lot of bikes.. Overall, I thought the Pista was my best bet, just to get onto the track- even though the colors are garbage. I just need a decent bike I can ride while I upgrade parts. Anyways, I rode a Surly Steamroller and it felt sweet. It comes with bigger tires that looked weird to me, and I would change the handlebars, but I think I like it better than the Bianchi.
I've never heard of Surly, but the guy at the shop has one- and said they're really good bikes. What do you guys think about them?
If the new Pista comes in blue, I'm down.
