yeah, I just realized bareknuckle (EAI) has no reason to do this -- considering they are sold out at most bike stores. However, if we can get even 100 dollars off, I think it would be worth it. (At least for me)

Also, I think whatever anyone wants a group buy on, they should contact whatever it is, there's a huge amount of us, and I'm sure you'll be able to get plenty of customers for whatever product it is. Bailey Works would be cool too :).

+1 i'd pick up a surly frame if that happened.

You guys are crazy if you think that you're going to get a company like Surly or Soma to make frames for a group buy.

How many hundreds of Rush frames do you think Soma is selling? If they can sell frames to people who otherwise wouldn't buy one, its good business sense.

What about Bob Jackson? They have off the peg (production) frames for about $600 US. You still get to pick your own colors. Shipping is the only problem as they are located in England. Try asking them, they maybe interested in working out some kind of deal.

So is being a rich spoiled American who doesn't understand that not everyone else in the world can afford a family car.

dirtyphotons 10-22-07 12:55 PM

the rob roy is not designed to be a touring bike, but on relatively flat terrain it works quite well as one:

in my never-ending quest for the ultimate do-it-all frame my most recent favorite has been the voodoo wazoo.
http://www.voodoocycles.net/images/07_wazoo.jpg

it's steel, it's got canti pegs, sliding vertical dropouts, rack/fender/disc mounts. i can easily think of five completely different style bikes i'd love to make out of that frame.

then again the prospects of a group buy seem slim. anybody got a bti account?

willypilgrim 10-22-07 01:17 PM

I skipped from page 2 to post this, but, FBM The Sword GB!!!!

Or the Bob Jackson idea or something like that would be cool.

dblock 10-22-07 02:00 PM

polarcreamsoda 10-22-07 02:12 PM

i understand that but surely a garbage bag with 3 holes makes for a better shield against rain then an umbrella (while riding a bike that is)

freeskihp 10-22-07 02:18 PM

does the bike rack not have a bti acct.?

we do:D and those voodoos are looking pretty hawt

This assumes that:
A)Wearing a garbage bag would be culturally acceptable.
B)That he isn't biking home from a job where he could access a garbage bag without it being viewed as stealing.

Not trying to harp on this, but it is important to realize to realize that in much of the world bicycles are utility items that replace cars, and not out of choice.

i suppose a and b could be reasons for usin an umbrella, and i know that bicycles are usually utility in the rest of the world especially asia, but same goes for the US (to a lesser degree)
