Bareknuckle will force me to drop out of school! I'm in!

SeanBonham 10-08-07 10:36 AM

Anybody have any contacts or connections with EAI?
Barenuckle would be so dope...

knucks 10-08-07 11:23 AM

i'd love to do a groupbuy for a nicer frame...but i still wouldn't have the money for it, or be able to justify it if i did. just seems to me that group buys are normally successful because it's a lot of people that don't have the money to pay full price (or don't want to), so if the groupbuy price is still going to be +$400 it could be tough to get enough people. then again, by the responses here maybe it wouldn't be so much of a problem.

Maybe I'm off-base here, but I think that a lot of people have been riding around on their janky-ass conversions for a while, and they feel like they're ready to step up to a more serious frame, in which case dropping $400 doesn't seem so bad.

Personally, I would be down for a super-cheap track frame, a la Kilo TT, since I already have two nice track bikes. I don't need a $400 Bareknuckle, but I hope that you guys do!

that could also be the case. either way i'd like to see it happen so there can be a BFSSFGBKGB build thread on here next spring.

yeah, you know, 450 frames around the world is nice and easy:rolleyes:

EAI was a big dick the first time I called around. I gave up talking to them because the discount seemed very small even with a huge amount of buyers

RMW 10-08-07 02:13 PM

Barenuckle! Yeah!

TheRyanocerous 10-08-07 02:24 PM

How long does it usually take to actually get the frame through the group buy?

Now that Pedalforce and IRO have done multiple group buys and have been very successful with it, and gotten a ton of free advertising out of it on BF, they might be cooler about it the second time, but who knows.

just so many of you know, EAI ONLY sells to businesses, they will NOT sell to individuals or groups, even for a very large GB order. I've talked with them before about a group buy, it needs to be an order from one of their dealers or some other shop, but a dealer is going to get a better discount. Also bareknuckles are sometimes hard to get.

The wait was only about 4 weeks.

so before the group buy, we establish a business of sorts. how expensive can that be?

This is a problem. EAI appears to work like most other bike companies. They do business with shops, and probably require the shop to sell at a particular price. Even if a shop is willing to do a group buy, EAI might not let them, and they might not be able to get enough frames to do it anyway.

What about a Soma Rush...Soma sells to individuals. Soma's are rarely mentioned here, but the Rush is a good frame made out of good tubes, with "track" geometry.

lamalex 10-08-07 04:23 PM

that would be sweet, soma is probably small enough that this would be profitable for them, just like the IRO one. EAI is huge, so the GB wouldn't be nearly as profitable for them.

knucks 10-08-07 04:28 PM

I'm down for Soma only if the ugly decals are gone.

upthecrooks 10-08-07 04:29 PM

I think I'd be down for a Soma GB.

Is EAI really that big? They seem sorta small to me.

data 10-08-07 04:32 PM

yeah bareknuckle or soma sound good -- how about spicer?

i'd rather have the Delancey.. that is a great looking frameset... but i'm bummed on having a 1 1/8 non-threaded. sh't is ugly. i'll never do it again.

data 10-08-07 04:40 PM

do they still make the delancey? I don't see it on the webpage. I'm a little bummed that the rush isn't a dedicated track frame. I really want a frame I can race track on but still bum around town with if I feel like it.

data 10-08-07 04:42 PM

nm found the delancey. Not bad -- but want a dedicated track bike. I may be the only one tho.

piratelove 10-08-07 04:46 PM

A soma rush GB would rule. I'd buy another one.

lvleph 10-08-07 04:55 PM

I would buy one of the Soma Road Bikes but I guess this is the wrong sub-forum for that.

UM...these two sentences are completely contradictory. The Rush appears to be exactly what your looking for. You can most definately race track on it, but its perfectly capable of bumming around town.
