Alexis Rims

Aight guys im a newbie so don't be to harsh if my questions are stupid! I did a pretty good search I though, but I couldn't find anything about the quality of alexis rims. Someone is selling alexis rims and formula hubs complete wheelset for 120-150 and was wondering if this is good buy or if its not worth it? Thank you! I don't know if its used or not I think its new though!

I got mine off Ebay, brand new for $150 shipped. I really like them, mine are lite and seem to be made very well. Mine also have the formula hubs and those too are good.

+1 Alex rims.

Google greatdealsonbikes. You can get better rims (still on formula hubs) in the same price range.

I rode some Alex R390 rims on formula hubs for about a year with absolutely no problems. I didn't treat them badly though (avoided potholes whenever I could, don't bomb curbs, etc.) I now have some Alex DA-22's which have held out fine (only been a month so far though).

i'd say get the mavic cxp22 rims on formula hubs, if you're liking the alex wheelset. you can get them the same price once you add shipping, and i know that if you make sure they're tensioned when you get them, that they're pretty solid.

Now not to be stupid someone mentioned checking tension of the tires how can I do that? Also do think it would be more reliable buying a set of tires from a website instead of someone in town. Idk its not a bike shop, but a community bike place where they had a wheelset donated and were selling it so I thought I figure out whats the stats first!

i've got an alex DA-22 on my rear right now. it's been a sturdy wheel thus far. i'm no wheel expert though. but it's stayed very true all while riding over potholes/cracks/the elderly. one day i'll get a front wheel to match.

You'd check the tension on the spokes. The tension in the spoke essentially holds the wheel together and generally determines the "true" of the wheel i.e. that rim doesn't wobble side to side or that the rim is out of round, barring any defects in the rim itself (e.g. it's bent). Just because a wheel is true, doesn't mean it's adequately tensioned. People getting mail order wheels sometimes find they're inadequately tensioned. You need a tensiometer to check the tension - the community bike place may have one. Some people claim to be able to check tension by the pitch of the spoke when you pluck it, but I can't.

And I have an Alexrim DA28 that I've ridden for about three years with no problems. I've also had no problems with formula hubs. Given that they're used (donated) ask the bike place if the wheels are tensioned/trued and the condition of the hubs or if the price is "as is". It doesn't appear to be a bad price, but if they needed servicing you'd need to add that in.

The alex da28 are solid rims.

1) You don't check tension of tires
2) You check tension of spokes with a tensionmeter
