Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

In answer to the second part of your question, it has no advantages if it's not on a BMX bike, and it's heavy. More metal in between the pins doesn't do squat for the strength, the weakest point is still around the pin.

Looks Hessian as all hell, though.

Hands down the longest-wearing chain I've ever had. Heavy, kind of short, but awesome.

Damn, I might have to pick that up for my winter MTB fixed build just cause of how beefy it looks. That's way too cool looking.
