Not to sound like a dick or anything but what is wrong with people under the age of 21? I understand that some people can be immature but that does not mean that they are ALWAYS under 21, I know aloft of people above that age that are more immature then alot of my friends. I get that Empire is pretty much a bar and therefore the 21+ rule makes more sense, but I think that someone who is 19 can sit there and enjoy the movie just as politely as a 23 year old. Alas this is nothing but my .02

mmmm alkey hawl

wind+cold+ear infection=****ty life.

funktupmofo 12-04-07 03:14 PM

Do you guys do anything about getting teary-eyed on the road?

I was zipping down Broad the other day against the wind and it was like opening my eyes in a swimming pool.

And yes, I wear glasses.

Should I just go ahead and special order a Mysterio fishbowl helmet?

it was happening to me today. Normally I can just blink it out but today it was harsh. I just look down and try and focus on the road directly ahead of me.

i get teary eyed sometimes and wear glasses..sucks but i just try and not let it affect me.

VAwitt 12-04-07 07:38 PM

I'm older. i'm a college student. i'm also a veteran. i'm fighting for my veterans benefits and paying my own way through VCU. i like being around people who have had similar experiences as me, few of whom are under 21. I want to sit around with my friends and have a drink at a bar and not be bothered by a bunch of VCU kids in skinny jeans. i'm also tired of going to racine all the ****ing time. I'm sure empire has their reasons, all i know is that i appreciate it.

804RVA 12-04-07 08:18 PM

While I respect you as a veteran I think you are stereotyping a whole youth culture becasue of some kids that inhabit VCU. I think that age really has nothing to do with how mature a person is (to an extant) but to each his own, and I know Empire is a bar so yes they can set any rules they want.

lordgold 12-04-07 08:27 PM

Honestly, I don't think the whole "anti-hipster" attitude is really going to set anyone apart, especially in Richmond. I'll be the first to admit it, I guess I'm what people consider a hipster, but it's all stupid, high school bull****. Some of the best people I've met in Richmond are "hipsters" and that doesn't change my opinion of them one bit.

As for the Empire thing, I have no problem with it being 21+. I know that once I turn 21, I'd want some sort of safe haven where I can get away from the freshman, etc.

i'm not stereotyping - i don't like everyone at every bar, and i don't dislike everyone who isn't there. i need to get away from the people that are at school with me all week. just like i need to get out of my house occasionally, even though my roommates are my closest friends here at school. my comments weren't intentionally confrontational, i just want to be around people my own age now and then! :) Since i got out i have no one left to talk 'shop' with.

ex_ssn_yn1 12-04-07 08:34 PM

p.s. i own a pair of skinny jeans

Pemdas 12-04-07 08:42 PM

YOU HAVE TEETH?! hipster.

lordgold 12-04-07 08:49 PM

I don't think there's a single person in Richmond who hasn't worn skinny jeans at least once. :p

In response to the last half of that paragraph: Bars can't/shouldn't let in underage people, because despite the fact that you "aren't there too drink", you'll most likely still try. And if a 19 year old drinks, gets caught, and there happens to be an ABC agent around, the bar, not you, will get into trouble -- and real trouble, not your parents grounding you/not sending you a check in the mail trouble. Also, events like these are sponsored by drinking -- minors who can't drink take up space in an already packed bar, and therefore cost money, because sodas are free/cheap. Also, you don't realize how annoying you are at 19 until you get older, and trust me, you realize that you were really ****ing annoying (no offense).

Straws 12-04-07 09:34 PM

I'm down for a bar night. racine, empire, ipanema, roxy

Wow, you are the only one in this thread that sounds childish. Your points about underage drinking are true, but the way you went about posting is terrible. I have yet to go to a bar where sodas were free so please inform me of these places. Also you made it sound as though people who are under the age of 21 are solely supported by there parents, not the case, I work and pay my way just like you and hundreds of other students. If I were at a bar to see a movie I would not try to drink illegally, but some kids may, and that is why I understand what Empire is doing. So in closing you sounded like a total asshat (no offense).

funktupmofo 12-04-07 09:49 PM

Wear what you want. Look how you want. No biggie. We all gots style.

nah, just lookin out for our watering holes. i hate being held up in line at 7-11 for my 40s by some old ****er complaining about getting ID'd. they ID you so they dont lose their job. i keep my id out cuz i love their job, TO SELL ME BEER. lol
besides, this forum alienates enough people. no need to alienate the guy that lives on the other side of grove from you or the conversion duder that locks up next to you in schaffer. =)

804RVA 12-05-07 12:15 AM

I guess I ended it on a sour note, I don't want to alienate anyone, in fact I started this thread so that the vcu biking community could get a little closer and that still is my goal. So seriously you guys wanna do a bf ride this Saturday?

Pemdas 12-05-07 01:37 AM

im in for an early afternoon ride.
