yeah i was about to put some on from my old road bike. they are currently stuck on the old bike. i stripped an allen wrench and i think the bolt while trying to get it off. i think i may take it to the lbs tomorrow and hope they can bail me out.
|
Um, not to patronize, but are you sure you're turning the right direction? Plenty of us have realized a little too late that the pedals have opposite threadings...
|
I ride a clipless fixie and I wouldn't do it any other way. I've used clips and straps but clipless give better acceleration and power. I use an older set of double sided ritchey mountain pedals and would definately reccomend a mountain pedal if you're going clipless on a fixie. Mountain or eggbeaters, both can take a lot of abuse. Also, I got my specialized dirt shoes with spd clips attatched almost new @ goodwill for $4. I got my forte road shoes from the dumpster behind a performance cycles store. They had some scuffs and a small tear but work great.

clipless=amazing

yeah i have ruined 2 allen wrenches and an adaptor to my roommates socket wrench. i am going to have to replace them, and i have no idea why this is so hard. they won't turn either way.
|
my work bike has clipless, but I often switch out pedals for the weekend so I can have normal shoes.

I like clipless, because tearing ligaments and tendons went out of style in the 80's.
i should also explain my preference for clipless is informed by the fact that i live far away from the rest of my life... so, even riding casually (going out to hang out, visit people, dates in the park, etc) i rarely ride less than ten or fifteen miles, and frequently have casual forty to fifty mile days. for me, this gives efficient pedaling priority over the comfort of wearing casual shoes for these casual days. |
clipless is the ****ing best.
That said, I've been riding clips/straps lately to work/school/etc just because it's a little easier... it blows.

Can someone recommend me some shoes? I almost always ride in my Sambas as they aren't OUT THERE and blend in fairly well..so i don't want some shiny/crazy colored shoes...
I'm thinking MTB ones since I do some walking to class and etc. I do a lot of walking at work, but I guess for that I will bring a spare pair of shoes.. So I am looking for some comfortable shoes that won't make the CLACK CLACK CLACK noise. I think i want to use them w/ some eggbeater pedals. |
knucks,
go to a bike shop and try on some shoes. if you want comfort, the only way you'll really be able to get it is to know what you're buying. most shoes will not make the Clack Clack Clack, until you've worn them every day for several months. Then, every shoe will. Nature of the beast. |

clipless w/sandals

On my "track bike" I still use clips and straps because it just looks right, but on my commuter fixed gear and my single-speed 29er I run eggbeaters. I use MTB shoes (Shimano whatevers and Izumi Pearl Vagabonds) to allow me to walk around, but I'll also keep a pair of chucks up at work for when I don't want to look like I'm walking in space shoes all the time.
|
i ride clipless and strapped because i need the absolute most power and most efficiency out of my pedal stroke for riding around town doing my skids and wheelies and stuff.
|
I put platforms on my single-speed and it's ****ing great. I just hop on and go.

SIDI Dominators... most comfortable shoes EVER. ever. Seriously!

Old old old pair of Specialized MTB shoes. Got them for $25 new on closeout almost 7 - 8 years ago.

I really dig my Specialized MTB shoes. They're pretty much indistinguishable from normal dark sneakers, except for the occasional metal-on-rock noise when I step on a pebble. The cleat is recessed far enough in that I can walk around just fine.
