Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? yeah?.. -but theyre 'free'. . I'd probably get arrested if I were to steal one of those Namiki things (which btw probably writes no better than a $2 gel/ball point pen, no?)

That's like saying a Nagasawa doesn't ride any better than a Kilo TT.

I occasionally receive blueprints from messengers. Does that count? Oh, and **** expensive pens. Sharpie ultrafines are the best things ever invented. Or the pencils with liquid graphite, god I love those.

Desire a Waterman? A Namiki? Do I detect a case of pen*s envy?

red house knows what's good..
messing is all about collecting pens... and free water. also, gawking at countless status-undetermined-women in offices and on the street all day (if you're single) or having countless status-undetermined-women gawk at you (if you're not, or you just got swagger...ehem ehem)

i know of one messenger who has ever actually hooked up with a hot secretary.

that dude was livin' the dream. flirting with cute secretaries is what makes the days go by best. one my last days on the job i spent a good 20 minutes just chillin' in some girl's office shootin' the bull. however, we did not get rad.

I preferred to flirt with the overweight security guards in the messenger centers, but I guess thats just how I rolled.

I apologize for not being familiar with the "MTL" abbreviation of some major world/national city.
Please elaborate.

mtl was evil in winter because the city is an island and the humidity would get right to the bone with the winds.
Lot of the eastern seaboard is wicked in the winter... I froze my ass off in Bosto n one year visting

I just started in Atlanta last week for a company call Jones Group Deliveries, i dont get a lot of runs but thats probably cause im new, but its still fun to ride around all day, and the weather down here in fall winter and spring is ideal for riding couldnt ask for anything more. Oh and no cute secretaries yet either

Yeah.. haha.

Most seasoned messengers look and behave like they just escaped from a freak show, and most office womens are very much frightened of such kinds of ppl. You can however get an incredible amount of play and attn if you simply fill the niche of 'regular/normal' behaved messenger guy.. If you are a messenger who acts in a relatively well adjusted manner and doesn't have dozens of facial piercings - then that makes you a rather rare and hot commodity amongst the office females. I garontee it.

courier depot, usually around 20 a day (counting round trips as 1), and i rock a medium freight or xl baileyworks though the bailey is seeing less and less use. also considering getting a cetma rack.

How hard was it for most of you to get the jobs?

I'm hoping to try and goto Sacramento or San Francisco in the next year and try to land a courier job but I hear it takes a while before you see an opening

Yeah, but how many of us are ex? I woulda been too tired and too poor for the interwebs when I was a messenger.

In Atlanta, I was with Phoenix, which was bought by Atlanta Legal Copies and, after I left, I think went to being called ALC. In Chicago, CMS, Intercept, Service First. In Atlanta, I was bummed w/ less than 20 (but my base was midtown). In Chicago, I was bummed w/ less than 35. Zo.
