Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Time ATACs. I tried a friends SPD-SL and didn't like it as much. Love the ATACs though, no pullouts, perfect balance of float, burly pedals. Seems to me the old school ones are the Phil Wood of clipless - strong, heavy (but not any more so than some cheap MKS pedals w/ steep clips/double straps), durable as hell, and rarely ever any thought has to go into maintaining them.

I ride with Shimano double-sided SPD's.

I have one pair of the most expensive pedals Shimano makes and one pair of the cheapest pedals Shimano makes, and they both work just as well.

I like Shimano M-40 Mountain Bike shoes.
I can walk in them easily and comfortably, and I forget I have them on my feet.

Bikes: nice Raleigh roadbike and an S&M BMX

I've got some Speedplay Frogs (the chrome-moly ones) paired with the Sidi Blaze shoe and I absolutely love them. Easy to get into, extremely comfertable, very reliable and secure connection to my bike, and my shoes make that neat skull crushing sound when I walk. All in all a wonderful experience.

ATACs, Ive heard too many problems about the bearings with the eggbeaters. Plus Ive been using ATACs since they came out, got a proto set from a rep and never went back.

Wellgo SPD knockoffs. 10-15 bucks for pulloffs from new bikes, depending on the shop. Work very well, but they won't really get you any dates in front of the coffee shop. I'm married now though, so that doesn't matter much anymore.

I started off using Shimano SPD's (the cheap ones). They worked really well, but I had some pull-out problems that I couldn't adjust away.

So I switched to eggbeaters, and I really like them so far. You can get them quite cheap online.

Wanted to try the Time ATAC's......but they were more expensive.

In their defense, this really has been covered about a million times. I'm pretty sure I answered this same question about a month ago.
