I was just about to post a question asking if anyone had done this. Thanks!

Also: such sexy, sexy bikes. I'll post mine once I put on the new cranks... and possibly a new stem... and possibly the new fork and headset. Next bike I buy, I'm definitely just going to build it up from a bare frame since I'm on my way to replacing everything anyway.

Nice ride Jumbo.

sohi 08-24-04 03:52 PM

black rulez! and yours is sooo classy!

absntr 08-24-04 04:02 PM

Very nice, refined. Gentlemanly like. Which reminds me that my next project should be something like yours - a little more laidback, a little more upright. A cruiser... if only the need for speed wasn't so strong...

SSenorPedro 08-24-04 04:07 PM

Beautiful bike - what bars are you running on there?

misterherman 08-24-04 04:57 PM

Got these from Rivendell, they call them "dove", made by Nitto.

What kind of rims are those?

Sorry for the crappy photos.

Ebay special?
I lucked out with my chain tension on the drivetrain, it fits perfectly
I'm going up to a 44t so hopefully it'll still work out without too much trouble.

Just gorgeous. Simple and absolutely beautiful. I am having something similar built, but with a brake and room for fenders (riding to work in the rain...)

haha thanks man, feel free to stop me anytime but if you try to steal it i'll have to bust out some n.y. chain on your face or the 4d maglite i keep in my bag for good measure. but yeah i do ride at night but mostly with other kids, i lock up (n.y. chain) on busy streets usually right in front of the bar and check up on her constantly. i live on 12th and walnut so sometimes its locked up outside pandora's if i'm just running into the crib to grab something or outside of AI durring the day. the frame and fork was 1100 add to that the components and i wont even say but it is insured due to my renters insurance which includes theft off of the premisis. a good idea for any of out there it's not very expencive either.

okay here are a couple of pictures of the bike that has ruined me for multi-gear riding forever. it's pretty much the same as when i got it at a garage sale four years ago (probably best cop ever), with the exception of the front brake (fork was already drilled), the seat and the super record headset. i'm slowly building a vow-of-poverty fixie from whatever i can find in the garage and/or scam from my lbs, and when it's ready i will use it for commuting and (i promise) take the white bike to the local velodrome where it really belongs, not these whacked-out ann arbor streets. those of you who fetish over white bikes - don't hate me for the paint chips, there is a fresh powdercoat in the white bike's near future, and it will gleam again.

btw hello everyone.

pitboss 08-25-04 10:48 AM

nice...what size?

what size what? riding 50×17, although it came also with a 48 and a 51 (another reason why it was the cop of a lifetime). you will appreciate the 165 mm cranks. as for the frame, i should probably measure it someday, and report back.

pitboss 08-25-04 11:02 AM

yeah...frame size. Man, that was a total find! Nice sled

fatpossum22 08-27-04 12:27 AM

Finished this at the beginning of the summer. 53cm Nishiki frame, repainted w/ Rustoleum. 42x16 gearing. Tiagra cranks, 3T stem, shimano 600 pedals, sun rims, tange "supple tape" bar tape, suzue rear hub.

meatwad 08-27-04 02:55 AM

Thats a quite an attractive bike. Don't you find those bars irritatingly inefficent though? I put a set like that on my ride but I couldn't appreciate the look over the useability.

Cripter, how good is that bike? I was debating over ordering a frame from circle (love their philosophy) or buying a new cinelli frame..

pista_chica 08-29-04 08:18 PM

here goes...

De Bernardi (Columbus Thron)
size 49 cm
miche gruppo except for the hubs which are dura ace
vittoria rubino tires on velocity aero rims, 28 hole
nitto shallow drops 38 cm
dura ace road stem 70 cm
fizik pave seat

body assembled by Trackstar in NYC, props to worldclasscycles.com for most of the parts. can't leave out larry (at larry and jeff's bike shop) for assembling the rims.

i'm happy.
