maybe about six months ago, i bid on two cranksets on ebay. i didn't expect to get either, so of course i got both. which naturally led to building two new bikes.
the first is a 1975 motobecane grand touring, repainted and outfitted with a fender as a rain bike. stronglight 93 crankset and a9 headset. |

and the second is a maruishi rx5, not sure of the year, but also repainted. this one's an ofmega mistral crankset.

Here is my 1985 Centurion Accordo in fixed gear form. 42x15 DA cog/lockring. Generic 27" front, Weinman RM19 27" rear on a suzue basic hub. Sugino cranks that need replacing, and noname everything else. 16T on the freewheel side.

That Black/Purple/White combo is sexy as ƒü©k! Info on frame & components? |
Nice bike ryko, I like the handlebars/bar ends ;)
You might wanna get some clips/straps for your pedals if you are riding fixed. Another thing: your bike will be much sweeter if you put a stem with a little less rise on it. |

I also run a similar bar/end setup, see my thread: my new handlebar setup owns!
I like it a lot, more than anything else I've ever run. :D http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=112015 Oh yea, purple ano rules. |

The stem is an older Salsa cromoly model for 1" steerers, cromoly, also (I believe) tigged at Waterford. The bars are Nitto B123s chopped and flipped. My front end is all steel. The wheels are Surly 36 hole fixed/fixed hubs laced with Wheelsmith DB 14/16 black spokes to Deep Vs. They're heavy but tough as *****. My drivetrain is a TA Alize Track crank mated to a Phil BB, an EAI cog, and an Izumi chain. The pedals are MKS Sylvans and clips with EAI laminated straps and Toshi buttons. Aside from wanting to either get some MKS RX-1s or maybe try clippless, and wanting a better chain, I'm very happy with my current set up. However, I've some words of caution regarding Gunnar and TA. The TA crankset, even using it's own TA Axis 103mm BB, gives a chainline of ~46mm. With Phil's adjustible cups, a lot of fuss, and a vernier caliper, it's possible to get a good chainline for a track hub. If I'd known this before, I would have gone a different route (Sugino). Gunnar (or, to be completely fair, it may be my (*****ty) LBS's fault) was not particularly nice considering I was spending more than $1K on their frame. I paid extra to get the frame with no decals (they put them under the clearcoat), and after waiting three times as long as I was told it would take, the frame arrived with decals. My LBS sent it back --with very clear instuctions that it was to have no decals and that that's what the extra $40 I paid was for-- and they (Gunnar) returned it two weeks later with decals on the head tube, seattube, and one chainstay. And they wouldn't take it back again, stating that they couldn't warranty a frame without decals. That, and it has rear brake cable routing braze-ons when I was told that it wouldn't. It's a very sweet ride, and it's beautifully crafted (except for the bottle mounts on the seat tube being slightly off-center), but if I'd known then what I know now I'd have bought a custom frame instead. |

Nice job on a sweat bike. BTW---What happened to the stock fork? Did you just toss the aluminum in favor of steel? That is to say, I reckon the original fork had no eyelets. |
Here's two pics.
1) My new Pinarello roadie. It's from '85 & has 90% Campy parts with Nitto bars. It's not fixed or a single speed but it's so cool! http://img44.echo.cx/img44/1152/a0sm.jpg 2) Ready to roll for it's maiden voyage tonight is my Medici. It features alot of cheap parts I had laying around. And I had to use my rear wheel from my Cinelli but it's only temporary. http://img66.echo.cx/img66/83/b9xd.jpg |
mmm...you go through a lot of heavy whipping cream.
dig the rides! thanks for sharing. Ever going to be able to join us at the velo? |
Yeah, I want to!
I met Skitbravking (sp?) & Naz within one week. I though I saw you outside of Yojimbo's the other day but it was some other guy with red hair. |

It has it all! I know I shouldn't say this in this forum, but I would leave this as a geared bike. You don't **** with a bike's soul. |
Raygun- what are those green bottles in the background?

That Pinarello is hot. While it's nowhere near as nice, I just picked up a roadie with full 105 DT shifting (as many of you know) and it's definitely fun. Plus it gets looks. I took it to Bikes Not Bombs tonight and I got a few people saying, "oh, that's YOUR bike. I was checking it out. Nice."
edit: oh, yeah, forget where I was going with that. Anyhow, it's fun to get down with that vintage shifter action. Very soulful. |
