saddle looks a little low to me but to each their own. Otherwise, a very pretty bicycle.

I'm so jealous of that Spicer...

wait, I just realized, it's a lot like my old Univega mixte. Maybe that's why I like it.

i was going to sell this...but i may just have to keep it.

sorry for the awful picture. i'll take better ones once i get the frame waxed up.

deathhare 02-20-08 09:44 PM

Very nice.

Gyeswho 02-20-08 09:50 PM

congrats. you're the one who scooped that Craigslist ad. great deal and great bike. I loved the C'dale and you will too but the wheels WILL NOT be fun on a windy day ;)

Continuing with the C'dale theme, here is my new baby. Early 90's C'dale Track 60cm. Just finished putting it together tonight.

delicious 02-20-08 09:56 PM

Thanks guys. You're right Gyes, I bought it blind after the guy said that shipping to Portland would be fine. I had been after one of these Cannondales for like 2 years now and with all the other components it made too much financial sense to pass up. Of course, because it was through Craigslist I had absolutely no guarantee that the guy would send me anything; but it worked out. :bday:

Nice! Looks better under natural light.

Beautiful. How much did you end up paying for it? I'm hoping the dented 60cm on ebay for $550 won't sell so he'll relist at an affordable price.

Is it just me or do the welds on the pink Spicer look crappy?

I know their nice frames, thats what i'm thrown off by. Anyone else see this?

What are those rims and depth plz

Carbon Based 02-21-08 12:15 AM

They're Weinmann DP18. Depth is 30mm, I think. Solid rims, cheaply finished though.

gehrkead 02-21-08 12:18 AM

^^^ word.

TimArchy 02-21-08 12:30 AM

Spicer's welds are generally kinda chunky. For better or worse, it seems to be part of his style.

Also, I think it was said earlier that the pink bike is a prototype similar to the yellow one he gave away. He doesn't seem to be too concerned about the aestetics of the welds on them.

Here's another ss I put together a while ago. This one's not so hideous though...
It's basically a Trek hybrid bike stripped of all that gear-changing rubbish
This one was a cheapie too - got it off my bro in law for a 6 pack :D
Added some road tyres, some new cranks and she's a nice ride (that chain needs a lube, but....:o)

And while I'm at it, here's another ss I built for my 4 year old boy.....
It's got extended main tubes / forks, and a raked out headstock.
He rides the hell out of it :D

ballin. what'd you pay for the tri-spokes?

Hello there! Been lurking a bit while building up my first bike--it's an old Univega, original paint job: bars, stem, seat, and front wheel are from my dad's pile of where bike parts go to die; cranks are sugino RD, pedals are MKS platform with the steel cage and leather straps; rear wheel is a cheap Alex from my LBS.

Thinking about switching to bullhorns or track bars and getting a smaller brake lever--these bars are practically two feet wide.

No wonder - it's a cool bike!

Regarding that hybrid bike you got for a 6-pack: what's going on with the rear hub? Seems like you modified an old-style freewheel cassette, but I'm not clear on how.

Vittoria Rubino Pro. seem pretty nice for the price.
welds on the spicer are way chunky, especially on the seam of the downtube, but they don't look so bad. i imagine gene got tired after welding all of those silly tubes together.

meh... while the pile wasn't as quality as yours, this was my living situation about 2 years ago

it got worse than that before i left. the key is to keep 3 or 4 of your bikes in a constant state of semi-built, leaving them to do nothing but get in the way and jump out at your shin in the middle of the night ;)

spacehippo 02-21-08 10:54 AM

I wish my house looked like that man... If I lived alone it totally would. If I did that now my roomates would flip their ****.
