I agree with gyeswho, as the vintage cannondale track frame is the stiffest ever measured by someone (there is a chart, but I don't know where to look). I had one and it was a beast for riding long distances. NO flex= great for track, as that is what it was designed for, to quote bikesnob "laterally stiff but vertically compliant" is good for long rides. When I took my CAAD5 to the bmx track, it was great. I then rode some cruisers there and was amazed how much the bike rattled me. There is a reason that bikes are made stiff. Comfort isn't one of them.

How many regular track bikes can do this with big tires? Steamrollers!

I love this. Get a chainring with about 38 teeth on it and find some singletrack.

edit: saw it in the brass thread. don't torture the winner with that saddle though;)

man, there are few things as low as references to things that are "********" or other pejorative ways of talking about people who are developmentally disabled.

I didn't feel like diggin up my old thread. It's done. The DA cranks are going onto a Giant Omnium when I get it, and replaced with Sugino 75's. I'm still messing around with the stem, so one grip is off.

Are you planning on using this as a mass-start bike, and the Giant for pursuits or something?

Nice bike. I'd pull the rim stickers off though.

famous amos 02-22-08 10:23 AM

I actually like the stickers on it, they go very nice with the bike logo. That bike is so nice, I wish I had the money to get some ellipses. :(

no it's not hard but it's nice to just set and forget chain tension and you won't have to worry about axle slips (even though it rarely happens to folks). Try it out and I guarantee you'll like it as well. The Surly are better than the MKS, to me, because you can perfectly set it will your fingers w/ needing an allen key

its lugged, I would love to have a brazed frame though. maybe one day I'll have a landshark built for me.

I'm with you on chain tensioners, definitely. But I'd like to add: there's no need to get the overpriced tugnuts. They offer absolutely no advantage compared to the half-priced competing chain tensioners.

So what. Real men don't need no stinkin' bottle opener - use your teeth or renounce on your real-menliness membership already.

goldenskeletons 02-22-08 12:40 PM

yeah, opening a beer with my teeth was funny until i remember that i don't have dental insurance ;)

and using your chain tensioner to open somebody's beer at a social gathering is a worthwhile parlor trick.

thrashin', i'll have pics of my peloton in its most recent build up after the weekend. its brazed, but the build looks kinda similar to yours..

i hear you but others don't work on conversion frames as well as track frames. that is were they really shine and make a worth while investment

I'd love to see it, nothing looks as good as a brazed frame IMO
