Nice job on a sweat bike. BTW---What happened to the stock fork? Did you just toss the aluminum in favor of steel? That is to say, I reckon the original fork had no eyelets. I got the frame and fork used from a friend who rode it with a brake. Here's another pic of it, this is me after a 30 mile ride this past sunday. and another pic of my crappy homemade pinstripe jobby. though it was my first time with one shot paint. third pic is my initials "JF" incorporated in the flower-esque design. |

johanntattoo:
Did you paint the frame yourself or did you get it done professionally. From the pics it looks pretty good. I painted a frame once and it ended up looking like complete trash. |

Nice white cranks too btw. |
I swapped out the seat & the bars. And then last night I rode it to a bar.
I can't even fit my finger between the seat tube & the rear wheel. You know what KC Armstrong would say about that? "Nice!". http://img66.echo.cx/img66/83/b9xd.jpg[/QUOTE] |
i will post all of my bike complete. all 8 bikes.

Here are some pictures of my rainy day Maserati road bike conversion. Its a simple lugged road frame from the early 70's. It had Campy Valentino Extra components, Barilla brakes, and Diacompe levers. The hubs are high flange no-names, with Mavic rims.
I'm currently rocking a 52t front and 19t Soma rear (the only part I had to buy), with crazy loctite action, for a modest 74-ish gear inches on 27" rims. I'm happy with it, but Will probably want a taller gear soon, probably when I get around to buying a real track hub I'll go 17t rear or something. The good: Flipped and chopped drop bars with inverted road lever in pseudo time trial mode. I bought some bar end levers, but decided I liked this 'retro' look better. Anyone need a Nashbar TT lever? Chrome lugs and chrome dropouts. Neato-keen. The fork is especially cool. Maserati name! They made modest little bikes (Fiorelli frames, I think), but who can resist the mystique of MASERATI? ;) Neat chainring! Big 52t monster. Started out as a double, but the 44t came off cleanly. Internal cable routing for the front brake. I did that myself, punched a hole in the bar-end, and drilled a mitered hole in the bar for the housing, housing runs through the bar, out by the stem, and down to the cable guide for the basic caliper brake. It fits! Yes, its a good size for me. It was free! Yay for free bikes! The Bad: The bike was filthy as sin when I got it, and it required a complete overhaul. The wheels are crapola. I rebuilt the front, and need to rebuild the rear. They weren't even made with interlaced spokes! I really need new wheels though... The rims have this crosshatch pattern stamped into them that looks like hell, though was clearly meant to improve braking... Totally questionable. Still has its cable guides. One part of me wants to remove the cable guides and repaint the frame. The other part wants to keep its retro charm alive.. I haven't decided. Did I mention the wheels suck? Cottered cranks have cool retro charm, but are a ***** to work with! Plus not many choices in pedals... Mountain bike toe clips... General dinged-up-edness of the frame, some small rusty spots. The Ugly: Stripped the pin on one of the cranks.. Next time it comes out, its going to have to be replaced... I hate that. The saddle is the most uncomfortable saddle ever made, I swear to pie. Its totally hard plastic and has a ridge in the center designed to mash your soft bits. Its awful. The worst saddle ever. Plus, that seat post clearly is not stock, since its too small! I had to shim it with masking tape to get it to hold. Its only about 6" long too, so I can't get the saddle up any higher, and I could really go up another inch or so. Time to find a vintage seat post and brooks saddle! Anyway, it only cost me the price of a cog and some time, and its a great little bike! Classy retro charm plus urban goodness of the fixie. Gotta love it... peace, sam PS Yes, the bike is in the kitchen, because the girlfriend isn't home. :) |

It has it all! I know I shouldn't say this in this forum, but I would leave this as a geared bike. You don't **** with a bike's soul. Is that a Pinarello Treviso? If so i have the same exact frame (1984) but mine has all ultegra with DA cranks and BB, but it's a 9 speed STI. My frame looks like hell so i'm going to strip it and powdercoat it. If i can get decals it'll be nice, but it's not a must. I got it for 475, not bad huh? It's been sitting on my trainer, when i get back from LA i'm going to tune it up, get some clipless shoes and take it to the hills. I've neglected it too much. |
okay, finally got it together:
