dura ace track cranks, chain ring,
nitto, etc...

How'd you manage to mangle that saddle that much? Looks like it's seen much better days.

Other than that I really like the frame / geometry, but is it really a surprise, I'm a sucker for anything NJS or Italian, really.

that seat was NOS when i bought it... 5$ at the local bike co-op. i worked on that seat all summer and through this winter... there was alot of rain and snow this season. its turning grey and all torn. oh well.
the scuff marks go with the rust spots around the head tube...

I didn't realize that was rust. If you're not scared, I'm scared for you.

Strangely enough, that feels comforting to me ;)

pretty much what I've spent most my time on since the purchase last may. Hell the SyCip sits in the house a hell of alot more than it use to, sad.

Hurry up with those photos. I thought about building something similar (K Monkey w/ drops) as a good fast winter commuter that I could throw risers on and hit the trails.

thanks.

aside from my experience with the redline, which i only rode SS, this is my first fixed. so far i love it. running 42x19 now and am doing my hill repeat climb with it pretty steady. (short and sweet but topping out at 8-9%) hoping to get it out on some dirt roads and fire trails this summer.

been out on it as much as possible with the weather here (last week we had 25" of snow fall in 24 hours!).

getting used to the constant pedaling. occasionally i get a reminder.

humancongereel 02-21-07 07:10 PM

ha ha, even people who've ridden for years but switch between fixed and free get reminders. i know a guy in portland who's raced for 20 years and messed for 19, and during one alleycat a little while back, he said he forgot he was riding fixed and tried to coast.

I picked one up for the winter and have also been loving it. It has definitely changed my ideas about what I want in an everyday, around town bike.

cassette 02-21-07 07:16 PM

I feel the same way. I used to just roll on a hard ass track bike, but now I guess my thing is a pista with some cantilevers

i'm on the rollers on my distance machine when i can't get outside... i can't really coast - but if i stop i will fall over! i've been forgetting mainly when i have to deal with traffic. mind goes into survival mode and the legs get a gentle or harsh reminder.

don't know how people do the skidding and trick riding. best i've been able to do is skid on snow!
on pavement i've only been able to "slow" the bike a bit by deadening my legs. perfectly happy with the brakes though. :)

off to search ffor fixed technique threads...

i got run over by a freaking police van on 7th and market! long story short, i'm fine and the bike is toast. and that cop was an *******. i'm sending my claims letter out this week.

at first glance, I thought you were testing out a new under-car bike rack. oops! damn cops

euphoria 02-21-07 07:22 PM

I have a secret confession

I flipped the hub for the first time in 6 months and...I liked it!

I pedicabbed for a bit whenever I rolled up to the first stop sign leaving the shop after my shift I had this problem.

To this:

... and I can see where you get the seat angle inspiration ;)

freeskihp 02-21-07 10:20 PM

jesus that seat tube is at like 85 degrees

The crankset should be another week and a half. I might post pictures of the bar setup now that they're wrapped.

el twe 02-21-07 10:24 PM

Yeah, my theory is the dude had that saddle on a bike with a regular ST angle, then just swapped it over to the Panasonic and voila!
