to clarify...it's the denominator when you reduce it. ie, 48/16 reduces to 3/1. so you have one skid patch. so like you were saying, a ratio that you can't reduce more, such as 49/17, has 17 potential patches. thank you sheldon brown...

TimArchy 02-26-07 09:27 PM

all right! another skid patch debate in the makings.
I taught a lesson about skid patches in the 6th grade Atlanta Public School math class I was teaching. By the end of the 50 minutes I could give the kids any ratio and they could tell me how many skid patches there would be.
There have been at least three long threads on the topic in here and people still don't get it.

Never really thought about my skid patches, good point. I do have a 46 tooth chainring, and if I ever found a 47 i'd be set. Finding DA-10 components is sometimes like finding a needle in a haystack. Maybe at the next T-town.

You're right, I knew that... Made a silly mathematical error like I usually do, probably explains why I was never so good at the whole study...

That's all 10 pitch?! Holy ****, didn't even notice.

the aluminum all'rounders. kinda like the northroads, but a lil narrower. great comfortable fun, totally changes the attitude of the bike. they were like 30 bucks i think. not bad.

no.

the lightest compact road frame that is rideable is a hair under 700g. that'd weigh up over the kilo mark for the frame, probably around 1300g. But it would have been produced for maybe $50USD.

travsi 02-27-07 05:28 AM

very very nice! i just have two questions:
…are you running a DA 10 pitch setup for a standard
threaded hub? ...and is that a shimmed cinelli stem?

chrisj 02-27-07 07:53 AM

I have a 16 tooth 10 pitch cog which threads onto normal lockring threading. And yes its a shimmed cinelli stem.

when it's nice out.

You've got a sweet ride.

talyfixed 02-27-07 08:44 AM

Wow!

Vey nice indeed! I would like to see this with drops, risers just don't do it justice. Is your fork crown marked by the Eddy Merckx logo?
Cheers

jon - i don't care what anyone says. i heart your tange. i saw it in person. i saw you build it. i saw you take it for test ride. and if anyone was there, i'm pretty sure they'd love it too. it's just too bad pictures can't describe how awesome your bike is.

jet sanchEz 02-27-07 11:12 AM

Hrm, specs? Frame type? Give us some information on the ride, I've heard great things about 653, thanks.

Your bullsh*t sensor failed you this time. If that frame really weighed 560 grams, I know of a forum full of weight weenies that would love to hear all about it.

I agree. Because if jonb cared about weight he would've invested in carbon-rimmed track wheels, not the 2000+ gram Pista's.

Next bike.

bob jackson pista.
56TT, 58 seattube. 74.5 head angle/74 seat angle, 30mm rake.
reynolds 631/725 (stays)
dura ace/open pro 36H
cinelli 10cm stem with 3T pista bars.
miche cranks 172.5, 52/19, lots of skid patches.
it's a stiff ride.
tried to get an old campy crank to work but the clearances just aren't working out for me...the cranks are the only thing that might change.

queerpunk 02-27-07 12:15 PM

piwonka, i won't tell you not to, but i don't see a need to change from miche cranks, unless you've got a bunch of other chainrings that aren't 135 that you want to use. your bike looks great, by the way. hope you're loving it.

piratelove 02-27-07 12:25 PM

piwonka.. i love it!

nice paint.

sweetbike 02-27-07 01:00 PM

nice whip!!! goes with you tires. what kind tires is those? r they tubular or clincher?

piwonka 02-27-07 01:24 PM

rear tire is a vredestein that you can get at nashbar for $10..
the front is vittoria pro-team that i found at a bike shop for $7.50...i've tried to find more of that one but had no luck...discontinued maybe...they're both clincher.

the Miche are long and have a tight spot in the chain...i got a good deal for them used.
