Nice commuter bike

Shiznaz 03-29-05 05:56 PM

I thought the bike was endoing itself for a second... I'm guessing those disc brakes are mechanical from the extra set of levers. How is that setup working out for you> I was considering some mechanical disk brakes for a project I was working on a while ago but I ended up going with hydraulic in the end (supposedly better). I like the bike!

rykoala 03-29-05 06:02 PM

Wow that crosscheck is SWEET. I really like that alot. Put flat bars on it and you've got my dream commuter.

Thanks,
This setup works great! I did think about a flat bar and some hydros but talked myself out of it.....

Hanging on the wall instead of being ridden today. Lame I know.

Maps and Bikes. Doesn't get much better. But then again I'm kinda a map geek. :)

edit: oh yeah..and the pic of the cute girl.

I would love to see a closer pic of your converter. Looks cool.

Total map nerd right here. Bicycle-cartography is the new black.

Here ya go

Shiznaz 03-30-05 08:22 PM

I'm a bike nerd and an urban planning nerd so I have all sorts of maps on my wall purely for their aesthetic and nostalgic value. The best maps will combine clear and attractive design with an easily imaginable landscape too. My favorite maps are topigraphical maps from the swiss mountain villages I have visted. I can retrace hiking along footpaths, walking over glaciers and even pinpoint chalets I stayed at.

I actually paid over $100 for a giant laminated road map of toronto. I can circle important places and figure out routes without needing damn mapquest to do it for me.

Its only going to get worse once start my masters!

pitboss 03-30-05 08:30 PM

Shiznaz - that is actually really cool.

ink1373 03-30-05 08:56 PM

agreed, i've been wanting a giant laminated map of the twin cities for a while. it would be a great passive learning tool.

icithecat 03-30-05 08:58 PM

Interesting commonality. Our hallway is the UK at 10 miles per inch with labelled pins marking points from visits past and future.

harlot 03-30-05 09:06 PM

Hijacked map thread. I make maps too. I have an awesome wall size vintage one of the whole British Columbia, WA, and OR coasts to pinpoint where I've been. Maps rule.

wasted weasel 03-30-05 09:30 PM

yeah sorry to add another one, but I'm a map dork too. I have a GPS mounted for my off road motorcycle that I sometimes play around with on my bicycles within the city. I love retracing a previous ride and going over it again in my mind.... it entertains me through the winter months when I can't ride and is way cheaper than cable television.

kennethalan 03-30-05 09:35 PM

Maps are the new Pie.

pitboss 03-30-05 09:39 PM

Without maps, I would have never been able to effectively call for fire. Thank you USGS map-makers, for bringing devastation closer, one grid square at a time. Add 25, fire for effect.

cicadashell 03-30-05 09:50 PM

at the risk of seeming unoriginal, i am also a total map hound. usgs quads on the walls at home, higbee's streams and lakes of michigan on the office (laminated), plus whatever sewer network/river system/estuary i'm modeling at the moment, boxes of topos and road maps and whatever from everywhere.

this is an interesting commonality.

Both have some really cool maps. I'm going to have a buddy of mine print some big ones when he gets his 48" wide Epson in a week or two... PM me and we can probably work something out...

NegGhostRider 03-30-05 10:08 PM

Yes.... black ones need to die. Black jellybeans that is.

HereNT 03-30-05 10:25 PM

Huh. My favorite jelly beans were always the black ones. But I like Jagermiester, too...
