He probably does need them. He's just trying for 'that look' a bit too hard.

And you can probably make all the assumptions you'd like, but you'll still be wrong.

:D

I'm gonna channel dutret for a minute and say your bar constricts your airflow into your lungs, inhibits your leverage, makes out-of-saddle efforts futile and makes you dangerous around rutty or cracked pavement. Whatever you think you're gaining with that profile you're losing in twelve other areas.

Also, using a broom handle? You could get cast-offs from any garage sale or bike shop for $5 or even free.

PS, here's where you pwnzer me by saying 'joke bike!'

whatever, if he wants to kill himself, its his decision. more power to you, barnzy.

well:
1. Obviously, the broom handle was a joke ( a bad one)
2. My asthma constricts airflow into my lungs too, hasn't stopped me for 23 years though
3. Philly is a flat city, i don't need to get out of my saddle much. When it is necessary though, i haven't had any problems.
4. Atleast it isn't your bike. Cuz it seems like you'd have a lot of problems with it.

;)

If you did that it would look like crap.

You shoud stick to one brand. Get DuraAce cranks with BB. Shimano headset.

Or Miche it all out.... and sell me your wheels...

You bike looks like it was put together in a parts bin....

I ride on chopped risers because if I'm using my drops it most likely means I'm on my road bike with has drops. but to chop your bars down to barely fit the width of your hand is seriously ****ing dumb. I just saw a guy riding with bars like that 10 minutes ago and he could barely stop for a red light because he had no leverage on his bars. And then when he needs to get up to speed again I'm sure that's a struggle too. Form is all well and good as long as function still persists. Once your look impedes your ability it's time to take a step back and rethink your process.

Just because that guy was unable to stop for a red, doesn't mean that i can't. My bars are a personal preference. I rode with drop bars for 3 years, and never moved my hands from where i ride with them now. I cut the bars down, for no other reason than i enjoy the way it looks. If it really hindered my ability to ride i wouldn't do it. I can climb all the hills i need to (where i am riding), i can skid, back pedal, and slow myself down within whatever distance i need to.

i'd never do that. mine risers aren't chopped smaller than me. i'm just saying.

it also occurred to me that it could be a polo bike.

That Spicer is interesting. How are you managing chain tension? It looks like it has vertical dropouts.

I just noticed that this thread has been viewed 2,063,566 times. Wow.

bward1028 01-28-08 04:57 PM

custom, but not for anyone in particular. i think he made it for himself, and then decided to try something else.
it's got track ends, you just can't see them behind the HUUGE washers to protect the frame.

It is good to see an IRO group buy fork find a home.
