Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

The '05 and '06 frames are made of True Temper OX Platinum steel tubing:

Aluminum fatigues and cracks much sooner than steel. Carbon is lovely until it fails...I'll stick with my steel bikes and you can kiss my ass.
I don't know anything about a frame manufacturer conspiracy against Cannondale, but I believe Cannondale had some serious problems with their aluminum frame in the early nineties once they got past the increased stiffness and wanted to reduce weight. After bankruptcy I think they've learned their lesson.. although not economically seeing as they're about to file again.

I'm actually a huge fan of Cannondale and I own a Capo. The frame is great, it works perfectly for me, although I will admit I am a gentle rider.

If you still read this thread...Consider that the new Lemond bikes suck they aren't made with the same OX tubing that they used to. Good luck finding one they are kind of unique.

Ok, you had an idea for a ulock that shoots mace and red dye to save the rider the weight penalty from a ulock. None of your ideas are valid anymore.

Also, Lemond builds a great bike. Just because the frames are no longer OX Platinum, which admittedly is a nice tube, they don't suck, you just get a little extra weight to carry around. For the OP, a newbie fixed rider, that weight is going to be negligible, especially since most newbie guys (myself included) start out riding some gas pipe, 30 year old conversion that weighs 27lb.

So just think of yourself as a leg up on basically everyone else who started riding fixed at the same time you did, only who didn't want to potentially waste $600 on a bike they may or may not keep riding.
