Or are you trying to replace the Triax frame? If it's the latter I wouldn't bother, it's probably lighter than any affordable 80's chromo.
Well that was the question. Which would be better to do. But i think i will grab a old frame and built it up. sorry guess i skipped over the post. My apologies.

"Using your imagination" does not mean scraping off the Raleigh badges, rattlecan paint, and White Deep-V rims with an Airone saddle. (I shake my head at some conversions-just buy a new bike already).
see my apologies, cause thats exactly what my imagination was thinking. haha. i don't think i will take off the paint, cause i do like old look. will have to see the condition of the paint job. As for the DV's dont' think i'm really interested. Will find something that makes more sense and more affordable. Better choices out there.

Ok, I thought that was the case.

Personally, I doubt another conversion is going to be any better (in fact, you've got a working bike now, you might end up with headaches trying to make a new frame work). Save your money and get yourself a decent crankset, BB, and other stuff that you could hang on a nice track frame later. That crankset looks awful...change that out immediately.

SO here is a question about the frame. I have heard alot of complains about the way the frames are put together. Is there anything wrong with the frame itself? The way its built. I personally have no problem with it... just wondering if they are built poorly, talking about the frame itself.

TIG welded aluminum? Nothing wrong with that. Almost every bike sold in the entire world is built that way. It's cheap, relatively light, and effective. I'd ride it into the ground.

I would bet that there is nothing wrong with that frame. But if you just want a new frame, that's okay.

We all like new stuff.

I must say, I avoided clicking on the "working on target bike... or..." thread since I saw it thinking a **** storm was about to come raining down.

I was pleasantly surprised. Lots of great info getting tossed around. Glad to see you got a working bike that you are happy with shanky!

This thread rock on.

+1.

my thoughts exactly. If you're happy with the frame (it's satisfactorily comfy and fits well), there's no real reason to ditch it. Swap a few more parts out and ride the **** out of it. No reason you can't swap everything over to a different frame down the road.

you said you had the rear wheel built? what's it spec'd with?

We of the venerable SSFG community can usually tell bricks from bull*****.

Bikes: so many

Keep that frame unless there's something you don't like about it specifically. I think those 70s gas pipe specials you posted would prove to be unsatisfactory compared to what you have now, though I haven't looked at the target bikes up close.

wow, that made a surprisingly good looking bike minus the crankset. I would definitely swap out the crankset, and possibly the headset.
Other than that, if it fits, ride it!

yes thats why i wanted to know if its a good idea to change the crank set. but i do and i do also want to change the stem on it so i can get a fatter bar in there cause his one is uncomfortably small. But i do like my bike very comfortable with it.

and this might sound weird but what kind of seats do you all recommend. I have heard alot about brooks. but problem i have is that i keep riding off the seat. i think its because the seat is tilted. but its also not very comfortable on my back side. What do you guys use?

Where are you from man? Heck if english is your second language I'd say you are doing pretty good. More power to you.

Sometimes I can be overly critical of native english speakers with poor english because so many kids and even adults in the states have a worse grasp on the language that most foreigners. It is sad really.

I recently tilted my saddle up in the front a bit and positioned it a bit forward on the rails and I found it made a world of difference for me as my spinning form seems to "mature".

When you wrap your bars, they will work better. It's like magic.

Bikes: 2009 Surly Steamroller, 19?? Fuji ?, 19?? Univega Viva Sport, Marin/Xtracycle combo

if you are sliding forward, tilt your seat back some (basically leveling it out), or move it forward in the seat post.

if you find your bike to be comfortable, then rock it. toss in a new crankset (maybe a budget set like bulletproof or truvativ?), get a stem that fits the larger bars you like, and just ride it till it falls apart! or maybe one day come across a frame you MUST have, and just swap the already decent components you've got to the new frame!

I think it would look and preform nicely with a black alien bikes crankset, I would also suggest wrapping your bars, it isnt hard to do and will make them feel MUCH nicer, imho. I would agree after seeing it/hearing your intentions more fully that you should ride it into the ground until you find a frame you cant live without.
