Bloomington, IN

I'm going to Bloomington this weekend to visit a friend who goes to IU. Anyone know of good places to ride/shops/places to check out?

humancongereel 01-10-08 10:38 AM

sweeney 01-10-08 11:44 AM

I can't believe people actually live in places like that... Unless you're going to visit the porn collection at The Kinsey Institute every day.

You guys could come on up to Indy for this...

Bloomington happens to be a pretty nice cycling town. Good school, great area to ride, and a crap ton of people on bikes.

Not everyone wants to live in the urban jungles/slums.

I'd definitely live there if they wanted to give me a free ride on an academic scholarship for sociology, and an internship at Kinsey. Not much chance of that, though.

Microcosm moved to Bloomington within the past couple of years. They don't have a storefront, but they don't mind people dropping in unofficially, and I think Boxcar handles some of their stuff.

sweeney 01-10-08 02:51 PM

any other things i should see in bloomington?

What time and how long do you ride? And can the rest of us play, too?

music/art/books...

http://www.myspace.com/sweethickorymusicandart
http://www.boxcarbooks.org/
http://www.landlockedmusic.com/

for bikes i like the http://bikegarage.com/ on kirkwood, although i don't like their website. also bikesmiths at 112 S College Ave. there are a few more but i like those two.

food...
soma coffee house at 322 E Kirkwood Ave, and right above it is laughing planet for burritos (vegan if you like) and such. roots on the corner of 6th and walnut is really good for vegan food too. i'm not vegan or vegetarian but it's one of my favorite restaurants in town.

i'm sure if you're visiting a friend you don't need those suggestions, but i thought i'd share.

MY HOUSEEEEEEE

personally, i think you couldnt ask for a better college town. It's great here although there is some animosity between the little 500 riders and everyone else on bikes. at least i think there is.

humancongereel 01-10-08 05:30 PM

you should go to the dalai lama's nephews or whoevers restaurant. i've only had tibetan food once, but i dug it.

sweeney 01-10-08 05:43 PM

thank you thank you thank you everyone

Eric Hanus 01-10-08 05:47 PM

i pulled a skid in front of 3 monks carrying shopping bags from the IU bookstore.
