The Brooks Pro has taken the longest but I find it more comfy than a B-17 when the handlebars are lower than the bars

I always thought brooks saddles had a rail underneath the center crest, but I see that it's only attatched at the front and rear, so it's kinda like a leather hammock for your butt.

that would probably be very comfortable after you got it molded to your butt shape.

I still think they look like tractor seats though

If you mean the hard plastic kind, then no. But check the bfssfg forum, I know there's one out there.

I scored a $10 Velo FA saddle from a closing bike shop, it's what I plan ride on. (i'm still building one)
In vancouver, here, we get too much rain. I feel it might be a lot of work for me to use a leather saddle

Actually, I picked it up from Athena Cycles in Studio City. Go see Howard and he'll 'fix' you up. I picked up the hipster TT protector at Orange 20.

I notice that the B-17 (and similar saddles like my Flyer) are on bikes with bars equal to or above the saddle placement and that the Pros are on bikes with bars below the saddle placement, just as Brooks recommends themselves.

I have used a BMX seat on my fixed gear, and it was the worst decision I have ever made. BMX seats aren't really meant to be sat on for any extended period of time. That was just my experience with one type of BMX seat, and here is what I have now:

Anyway, I had a personal moral crisis, and returned to civilian life.

I also became a vegetarian.

I just didn't want to look at bloody meat anymore.

So, for quite a few years, I not only avoided meat, I had no animal skin possessions.

Eventually, though, I drifted back into meat and leather, until, in my present work, I had a series of prehospital (meaning, at the scene of the accident) exposures to people suffering horrific, nightmarish burns.

Because of the repeated, intense exposure to the smell of burning human flesh, I developed a "phantom smell" (I showered and changed my clothes frequently because of "the smell"), and a nauseating aversion to cooked meat.
For an entire year, my whole family went vegetarian because I could not handle the smell of meat in the house.

Now I enjoy a good steak once or twice a year, but sometimes a year goes by without a steak.

So, when I decided to try out a Brooks saddle, the leather thing came to mind.

I had to make a choice, and I chose to give leather a try.

In all honesty, the leather thing continues to nag at me, and detracts from my riding experience on occasion.

As I sit here at my computer now, I happen to have my old Selle San Marco Ti Aspide Arrowhead saddle next to my keyboard.
I intend to put it back on my Pista, because of the leather thing.

I ride my Ice Bike with a Brooks because I have to ride it, and, so far, nothing works like the Brooks on my Ice Bike.

However, I ride my Pista not because I have to ride it (although I DO have to ride it), but for the sheer joy it brings me; and, I do not want a leather saddle coming between me and my joy.

Not wanting to be around flesh for reasons related to PTSD is completely reasonable. Your understanding and candor about your PTSD is also really healthy, and I commend you for this. I also respect the hell out of how you got the PTSD in the first, and second, place. Thanks for sharing, Brother. I salute your service, and truly regret the toll you've had to suffer for it.

Thats cool for you and I really do want to go all veggie (hopefully soon) but it doesnt give you (or me when it finally happens for me) the right to say **** Brooks and **** leather, those are your beliefs not mine. Im pretty sure I can say can say **** a lot of things about you including the fact that your vegan, some people will say **** vegans, but I wont, Ill just say that someday when Im ready Ill be all veggies and wont run around saying **** everyone elses that isnt vegan
