rip Sheldon may your legacy live on

Ebbtide 02-04-08 01:10 PM

My thoughts are with his family and friends. It would be impossible for me to count the time I visited his website. His articles have helped so much over the year I feel I should have paid a subscription.

icknayvon 02-04-08 01:11 PM

RIP and thanks for everything.

morbot 02-04-08 01:12 PM

yeah thats his real myspace. what a terrific guy he was.

wild style 02-04-08 01:12 PM

Man, I can't believe this. Hopefully now he is able to get back on a bike, wherever he may be. You will be missed, Sheldon.

mr.pickles 02-04-08 01:13 PM

A true legend and all-around nice guy if there ever was one. Condolences to his family.
Godspeed, Captain Bike.

RIP, I've learned so much from your site.

Abneycat 02-04-08 01:14 PM

My condolences to his family, he seemed like a really good guy.

mediccody 02-04-08 01:16 PM

That's really unfortunate. I hope that Mr. Brown's work continues to be available, because it has been incredibly encouraging and inspirational to my own bicycle-related work in the past few years. No one can expect to live on forever, but a good piece of writing can last nearly that long.

Brian Sorrell 02-04-08 01:18 PM

Very sad. How many times have I been puzzled over a repair and thought "What would Sheldon do?". The cycling world has been fortunate to have enjoyed his overwhelming enthusiasm, his eagerness to educate, and his iconoclastic insistence on doing things your own way. All The Best to his family.

RIP Sheldon Brown, enough can't be said about his providence to the cycling community.

ryanlovesyou 02-04-08 01:19 PM

Sheldon was one of those people that could instantly humble everyone with his knowledge and passion for bicycles of all kinds. He'll be missed.

el twe 02-04-08 01:24 PM

I have no words.

RIP, Mr. Brown.

Igneous Faction 02-04-08 01:25 PM

He got me off of an ill-fitting, poorly working 10-speed and onto bicycles that fit me well and worked. Plus, he contributed a bunch of good advice to this forum.

That dude loved to ride.

jaypee 02-04-08 01:26 PM

You'll be missed, Mr. Brown.

mailer 02-04-08 01:27 PM

CF4L 02-04-08 01:28 PM

without sheldon i would live a much less bike oriented life.

I will ride for him tonight. maybe everyone can do the same.

pitboss 02-04-08 01:28 PM

This is sad news for sure. I am glad to have met him and spoken with him on a few different occasions. Truly an inspirational person.

sp00ki 02-04-08 01:31 PM

Such a loss. I was always as impressed by his willingness to help as i was by the depth of experience and knowledge he posessed. It never took more than an email and a short wait to get terriffic first hand info and suggestions from Mr. Brown.

He will be truly missed.
I'd love to see his articles in print, perhaps bound in a single volume. His wealth of knowledge is the most useful bike tool i have...

Raise a glass. It's like Santa died.

caloso 02-04-08 01:35 PM

I'd always get a little thrill if I logged onto BF and saw that Sheldon Brown was logged on too. I bet I'm not the only one.... I can't tell you how sad I am to realize that'll never happen again.

I hope wherever Sheldon is now, the roads are smooth and the breeze is at his back.

I am thinking of doing a massive archive / dump of his site so that if somewhere down the road his site goes down his contributions could be re-hosted as they were very helpful to so many of us.

Great idea. That site is probably one of the most informative on the subject and needs to be saved for sure.

no.cages 02-04-08 01:37 PM

The man led a better life than most of us could even hope to. He'll be missed.

He could humble you, but the best part is that he was always humble himself.
