The number of people here who are indebted to him is staggering, not only for the wealth of resources he provided, but also for the attitude and spirit with which he provided it. My heart goes out to his family.

Oh my... how very, very sad. Sheldon was a huge help and inspiration to me and so many other cyclists. He was a true class act and I will miss him.

Rip :-(

nick burns 02-04-08 01:56 PM

Very, very sad news. Rest in peace Sheldon.

kemmer 02-04-08 02:06 PM

This is the worst.

I don't know what I would have done with my first conversion, an old Peugeot, had it not been for him. The guys at the bike co-op had convinced me to get rid of it but Sheldon's page convinced me that not only was it possible to convert/save, but that it was worth doing.

It also makes me sad that nobody will ever be able to invoke the name of Sheldon Brown on bike forums again. It was so awesome when nobody knew the answer to a question and someone would say "I bet Sheldon would know" or something. Within a few hours he'd be here posting the answer. What a cool guy, he'll definitely be missed.

at least he lived an awesome life, and his memory will go down in the books. guess that's all we can hope for.

RIP

doughboy 02-04-08 02:31 PM

He was in a class all to himself, a true inspiration not only for the most extensive source of online technical bicycling information but also for his spirit to continue helping others and propagating the sport/hobby despite his illness (multiple sclerosis.)

We lost a legend today...

RIP, Sheldon. You will be missed!

andre nickatina 02-04-08 02:32 PM

****ing A... my last contact with him involved arguing the specifics of brakeless track bikes on the street over in the Bike Mechanic forum. That's crazy how he just died. Shows how quick life passes and how fragile it really is.

RIP and respect.

Southernwayfare 02-04-08 02:33 PM

Rest in peace, Sheldon Brown.

cutality 02-04-08 02:37 PM

So, so sad.

RIP, Sheldon. You did good.

Ray_B 02-04-08 02:38 PM

Very sad indeed.
Through correspondence with him, I was put on fixed gear path.
A great biking advocate has been lost.

Wow. I only know of the man through my many visits to his site, which I still go to to find answers and learn.
Rest in peace Mr. Brown.

MIN 02-04-08 02:41 PM

Wow I was just emailing with him a few weeks ago. His legacy will live on. This is quite tragic.

Can someone reprint the "Sheldon Is My Co-Pilot" stickers?

bikebuddha 02-04-08 02:44 PM

I have no doubt Sheldon is now in cycling nirvana.

Billygoat 02-04-08 02:45 PM

I am very sad to loose a great bicycle advocate. God bless his family and friends.

wroomwroomoops 02-04-08 02:47 PM

*******..... is the first thing I said. This can't be true. I refuse to accept this. We had a nice e-mail conversation going on a couple weeks back..... there was NOTHING that would make me thing it's going to end soon.

For now... I can't accept. I fscking can't accept this. There's so much stuff I wanted to discuss with him.

plodderslusk 02-04-08 02:48 PM

Thoughts go out to his family from far away. We dedicated bicyclists are an international crowd and the net made Sheldon Brown an authority all over the world. He will be greatly missed by us all.

yeah, now they have an unfortunate meaning.

Is there a way to send our condolences to his family? They deserve to know how much he was loved.
