I wish my girlfriend would ride our tandem.

|
On occasion, mainly with other friends though. She does ride occasionally, but it has been cold out lately.

I don't know if your girlfriend just doesn't ride bikes or not but perhaps you should try to sell her on the positives. Here's the reasons my lady likes it better than riding solo: * She doesn't have to pedal very hard * Wind protection * Doesn't fall behind (even though I'd wait for her) * No decisions about when to cross roads or which route to take etc * It's easy to talk amongst ourselves * Lately she's started using the time to talk on her cell phone I think it's important to let your stoker know what is happening at all times (for their comfort). "Turning left", "going up a gear", "pothole", "speedhump" etc. Also important they have a comfy saddle as it is a little bumpier back there. But then again, plenty of people who talk to me about their (usually) only tandem experience describe it as "frightening", "a hellish experience", "death ride" etc. I've never found it anything other than a total blast, and very easy. So I guess everyone's different. |
OP, I'd bang your girlfriend.

next step, tandem track stands and tandem backwards circles.

My girlfriend rides and picks up burritos for me.
Also, if my stoker was talking on a cellphone, I'd slap that **** out of their hands. |
I used to have a tandem and a girlfriend, now i have neither.

I am the lucky one who got to build this beast up. Everything was pretty straightforward except for the tensioner pulley for the sync chain. The drive train was on the left side when I got it, and I switched it back so it could line up with the welded tensioner mount. I first tried some derailleur pulleys, but they were not near strong enough. My girl suggested a large metal sprocket and I happened to have a crappy single speed freewheel that I brought back with me from India that fit the bill. Someone online had used multi-speed freewheel as a tensioner before, they just had to open 'er up and take out the pawls so it can turn either way. Not such an easy task, but not impossible. When I finally got my freewheel open (with a hammer and a punch) 80 tiny tiny ball bearings went flying on to the rag I placed below it. Taking out the pawls was easy enough, but replacing the bearings was an exercise in patience. The freewheel went back together neatly and I mounted it on the bike by cutting an old rear hub near the threaded flange, screwing the freewheel on, and then using the axle to crank down on the whole contraption tight enough that nothing moved except the freewheel. Only took me about a day and a half, but what else are you going to do on Rodeo vacation? Cheers.

my bro had this junkyard tandem... it got turned into a fresh fixed gear. this thing is rad. you can go pick up your girl from work on it and get burritos together.
first stage for initial test rides: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2048/...5f4c232f_o.jpg fully legit now, just needs some grips and maybe a brake for the back as once you get going, quick stopping is only for the gnarly: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2288/...4dc96de8_o.jpg who wants a burrito: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2138/...2a0019e6_o.jpg |
