Large steel frames?

I'm 6'4" and looking for a large frame around 61cm. My budget is around $1000.

What is the best frame to get for my price range?

Thx

if you're looking to spend that much you might as well save a bit more for a custom..

Oh I'm fairly certain that there are quite a few builders who can make you a full custom frame for under $1000.

I picked that price point because I have been searching for a while now and I cant find any high-quality frames for my size.

If I do go the custom route, what build manufactor would you suggest?

So a $1300-$2000 frame without a fork is "around $1000"?

Again with the zingers!

Read the ****ing thread and respond with some useful information, next time. Not the name of your favorite frame maker.

exactly... for a little more than $1000 you can get something spectacular like a moyer if you like. or you can just not ride a bike, and spend your time patroling threads on the internet for ways to be a ******, like bonechilling.

Ok, if you're going to make that claim, at least tell us why a frameset is worth $1200+

Those Spicers frames are in my price range, never heard of them but maybe they will come up in some in some searches.

The Mercian are sweet as well... I'm finding out there are a ton of options on the frames.

ha-ZING, and out come the claws. The loving of hooters not being reciprocated lately? taking out the frustration on faceless internet strangers? good luck with that broham, no matter how many folks you type angry stuff at no ones going to show you boobs.

On topic: Look into an EAI bareknuckle, the standover seems a little high for their sizing which might fit you nicely. Also (I think) for considerably less than a g you could find something nice from spicer or IRO.

Wow dude. I wasn't even trying to be an ******* in that post. I just wanted some information because i've never heard of them. Way to be a jackass. Let me try rewriting my post.

If you're going to make such a spectacular claim such as:

then at least tell us why it's good. Or just SHUT THE **** UP. You feeling it now bro? Or still want to be an ass? Because I got you beat in that department.

Bikes: Zeus (Razesa) tarck, Giant TCR road, Eddy Merckx road, Fuji Touring Series IV for everything else

Troll e-bay. There have been several large (62-64cm) vintage frames on there lately. I remember at least one Merckx that went for under $1000.

Are you sure you ride a 61cm? 61-62cm tends to be the largest "stock" frames from most manufactures.

I only say this because I'm 6'4" and ride a 65-66cm. I'd get a proper measurement, maybe take a look at the RBW method of frame sizing and give it some serious thought: https://www.rivbike.com/article/bike_...g_a_frame_size

I'm much happier on a 65-66cm than I was on a 61-62cm. Do it right the first time and get a frame that fits you.

if sub-$1000 custom is the question, then "Curtlo" is the best answer.

I'm not going to try and play policia here, but it would be nice to get back to the matter at hand.

clearly the OP has a lot of money and no clue what he's doing. if he doesn't know how to get a hold of a quality 61cm steel frame (which are not difficult to come across, unless he needs it by this afternoon) then he has no business dropping a grand on a bicycle, let alone a frame. what he needs right now is enough information about frames to formulate an opinion, not two-dozen internet people pointing him in two-dozen directions (I'm not accusing anyone of steering him wrong, just that the original question was so vague that's all he's going to receive).

diabolus: have you tried ebay or craigslist? for $1000 you can afford almost any steel frame that will appear. do you want something vintage? do you want something new? custom?
you might want to research columbus tubing and reynolds tubing, as a great number of bikes are made with them, and they come in many varieties. what about lugs? filet brazing? You can probably afford a custom frame - are you familiar with your local builders? You would get to customize the geometry too - do you know what kind of geometry you want?

Mercian and Bob Jackson are good places to look - you can get custom frames, or "off-the-peg" versions in any size, with custom paint for $700-800.

but if you ask me, I think you should sit on the money until you do some serious research and know exactly what you want, because there is no "best frame for you in that price range" and a group of internet kids can't give you your opinion.
