NYC Day Trip

So tomorrow I am taking the train into NYC from New Haven, CT. I am going to bring my bike, and I have a few questions for anyone who knows the answers...

What are some things worth checking out? I plan on visiting people in Manhattan, but also want to check Brooklyn out. Brooklyn has Trackstar I know, but what are other bikeshops/coffee shops/bars worth checking out?

Thievery... So I have a Basic like level 8 or 9 security Kryptonite U-Lock. How paranoid should I be while I am in a museum? Should I swap my Brooks Saddle for the one that came with the bike before I go to NY? Also, should I take off the front wheel and lock the frame and both wheels up w/ the u-lock? Or would only the front, or the front + a cable suffice? I know what the 'safest' thing to do would be, I am just wondering how neurotic one has to be in a city that has a lock named after itself.

Also, is there anywhere I can pick up a map of the streets for free?

Thanks to anyone/everyone for the help.

From: NYC and the Dirty Jerz...

Bikes: A **** load...

Track Star is in Manhattan. King Kog is in btown. Both are DEF worth scoping out. As for locking up in NYC, you can't be paranoid enough. Minimum two locks unless of course your ride is dirty, taped and stickered up. Lose the Brooks while you're at it. Just my best advice if you're only going to be in town one day. Most bike shops have street/bike maps for free. Hope that helps man!

thanks for th help so far. that 15mm wrench i just bought should come in handy for locking up the wheels. especially since that saddle was a gift, i think it will stay in CT for tomorrow.
also my cousin was saying something about restrictions on where one can like his/her bike up in NY... anyone heard anything about that?

don't lock to trees or other people's bikes.

don't lock to scaffolding. cause it gets unbolted and your **** gets jacked.

if you're going to lock to scaffolding, just lock to the weight bearing vertical pillars; the horizontal bars are the ones that get unbolted and bikes disappear.
