MASH dissent in Shaky Town?
Someone just sent me this link and i found it funny but also a little wrong. I know making fun of arrospoks is the new thing but there arent REALLY that many in SF are there?
Discuss.

2007 was MASH's year. 2008 is all about fixed gear freestyle gangs, riding in circles, posting videos on YouTube with lots of people saying "Yeahs," in the background.

leave the tricks on the BMX. i ride both, and dont really understand the popularity of tricks on track bikes. you are simply far too limited and the tricks dont even look that cool. one inch pogo's with a barspin thrown in? lame.

Yeaaahhh I have to agree with that guy. I've had a fixed bike for a week now and I think learning to do stupid skid tricks and wheelies is f u c k i n g lame. I'm all about being able to get from point A to B as fast as possible, no flashiness required.
In a side note, a lot of the kids I ride with around here are all about "mashing" as they call it, and making their bikes look spiffy. One kid just bought an aerospoke, an aerospoke!, in Lincoln Nebraska! Good lord! They spend most of their time trying to pedal backwards and learn to wheelie as well...

Everyones entitled to their opinion. Whoever put up that craigslist ad obviously doesnt have enough cojones to tell the riders that hes ridden with, his opinion of them.

I see those guys around town all the time. Yes they ride. Yes they zigzag. But have 'you' ever gone down a hill in SF knowing theres a stoplight/stop sign coming a couple blocks. Your basically playing chicken with cars. And in my opinion that pretty ballsy. San Francisco drivers dont care. Theyll swerve, honk, hit you before they flip you the bird. Taxis are worse they hit and run with pleasure.

To me its pretty hardcore mobbin/mashin/zoomin/speedin thru traffic with no brakes and a fixed gear.

And yes theres only a couple of Aerospokes in the city. In the past two days ive seen three. And one of them was on my bike.

People who hate talk **** drive me to do what i do. I ride an aerospoke because people hate, but man i think they look good. And they are tanks for riding around town. To me you talking **** is just jealousy.

Wait untill i throw on my matching pink Zipp tri with Zipp disc. The hecklin wont stop.

I decided not to when some kind offered me $275 for it. Thats the price for a brand new Aerospoke. I figured hey if the demand is driving people to pay that much then i aint going to sell it just yet. Plus i love my Aerospoke.

I'd say yes. Not because I'm some elitist, though. The same **** happens in everything that was once "underground" but then gets thrust into the spotlight. I grew up in the hardcore/sxe scene in SF/Oakland/Santa Cruz in the mid-90s and can tell you that out of the 100 or so edge kids I used to bro down with, there's maybe five that I know of who are still edge. With two exceptions that I can recall, it was always the "straight edge champions" who peaced out the quickest after it wasn't "cool" to be edge anymore.

Whatever though, there's no reason to hate on anyone, time is the true test... let pretentious jerks be pretentious jerks and concentrate on your own life; the universe has a strange way of balancing itself out.

Bikes: 08 tommaso augusta, 88 specialized sirrus, random cruisers and stuff

I don't see whats wrong with dicking around with some tricks. I commute 20 miles a day and dick around in front of my house for ****s and giggles. Both are fun and both don't hurt anyone. Let people do whatever they want, its not like their tricks effect how fast you get from point A to point B. And hopefully people start buying more aerospokes and regular wheels drop in price in response to decreased demand.

As far as mash, it is what it is. If you don't like it then don't watch it. I didn't enjoy it too much but I have to admit that some of that stuff was gnarly. I think most of those guys will still be riding in 6 years, they probably won't be pushing their luck as much though. Maybe the guys did start riding because they were hipster but that doesn't change the fact that they ride hard.

That craigslist post stinks of velodrome elitism.

Bikes: TBL Onyx Pro(ss converted), Pake SS (starting to look kinda pimped)

Depends on if the X-Games picks up brakeless FG riding... both race (with "rad" engineered to be like real street course) and freestyle. This is the same crap that happened to skating over 20 years ago.

i believe so... its not easy for me to go downhill skidding between cars, and i love something challenging..

idk ... one day, i just wanna do this and see my stepdad in a car, flip my finger off and yell **** YOU! then BAM! im gone with my bike...

It is true.

Also, its easy to critique someone or something annoymously without having yourself judged like that.
Although i think the MASH thing is over-hyped...Id like to see the CL poster ride.
And while ive only seen about half of the MASH vid...where's the CL poster's superior video?
