Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Cotton sucks when wet (sweaty). Avoid it unless you don't ride hard enough to sweat.

Those Portland Cyclewear knickers look pretty good and seem to be priced right. I just bought some Outer Edge hiking/outdoor type nylon pants on sale for $15. Giving them a good wash now and will hopefully cut 'em and hem' em tonite. I've done the same with some similar pants from Target purchased for $12 last year. Pair those with some good quality padded shorts and it's all good.

Everytime I'm at Walmart, I'm tempted to get a pair of Dickies and cut and hem them. Do they eventually lose their "stiffness"? They seem so uncomfortable right off the shelf.

pretty cheap comparatively too at $59
just ordered some, hopefully they won't disappoint

I just got these. Only rode about 20-30 miles in them so far, but they are BY FAR the MOST comfortable thing I have ever worn. I never wanna take them off.
Part of the reason I like them so much is because they fit so well....but of course that will vary from person to person.

Anyway, can't say much for the durability of them because of my limited use so far. But I did fall instantly in love with them.

Since you own this pair, what's going on at the bottom of the cuff? Is that some sort of flare/zipper/open flap type thing?

Yeah, just a zipper. About 5 inches or so. Unzip it and it opens up a few inches, with mesh holding it together.

...come to think of it, not really sure what the point is of that?

I have to wear Dickies for work, if you get the 'classic fit' (I think, maybe regular fit?) they fit more snugly as long as you don't get the DOUBLE KNEE classic fit. The double knee classic fit are much baggier, which I hate. They're not really snug, per se, more like classic boot fit jeans, at least on my chicken legs...

progre-ss: they do lose their stiffness. I find them unwearable if I don't wash them first, the first wash takes a good amount out, and then a good amount of use will break them in more. They're still stiffer then a decent pair of dress khakis, but that's obvious, since they're work pants.

Thanks GoodEyeCycler. I may just pick up a pair and try 'em out.

Does anyone wear Ben Davis as opposed to Dickies?
