if i ride to work i have a lot of shoulderless stretches of road, i has someone get along side of me and honk and shout things at me, i just proceeded to laugh at them, that tends to not make people to happy when you laugh at their anger. would i go as far as to flip them off, probly not.

I've actually found most drivers to be pretty good here, compared to Sacramento, where I grew up.
Deadfarkinglast-that ****ing sucks. Where on Branciforte did this happen, I regularly ride a loop that includes Branciforte drive so this kind of freaks me out.

About a block from Water St, coming back into the downtown area. I don't remember the cross street.

That's too bad, but I can't blame you for getting upset. Last november I called a driver who was tailgating and verbally abusing me on a bridge a ****ing ******, then had to skitch his car and scratch up his door with my cranks as he tried to run me off the bridge deck, then spit a big snotty loogy into his passenger side window before popping over the railing onto the sidewalk. I only regret not damaging his car more.

Bikes: A whole bunch o' bikes.
I had a car full of douchbag teens throw some apples at me the other night as they passed me going the other way. Only one hit me, it hit me in the pocket of my jacket and dropped to the ground. Kinda wish I'd caught one, I was so hoooooongry. I just ignored them, I've learned through past experience that its better that way. Unless someone is deliberatly trying to kill me, I'll almost always let it slide.

Me and a few friends hosted a free maintenance workshop on the university campus here the other day and I just so happened to strike up a conversation with a guy who had been commuting to school/work recently and some homies in a pickup came up behind him and smacked him over the head with a bat and this was entirely unprovoked.
Another fellow I know last night was run down by a some random fellows in a Grand Marquis when he was heading home from the bar.
My girlfriend works at a LBS and one of her co-worker's girlfriend was riding to his place and was broadsided by a woman who ran a red light, who at this point, got out of her car and screamed at the poor girl for being a ****ing idiot.
Another fellow I know was apparently hit by a car yesterday. The car was at fault. I havn't heard the extent of the damage.
None of these people were wearing helmets but fortunately only half of them received concussions/stitches.
Spring fever sucks. People are getting crazier as the heat gets to them in their little death boxes. Glad to hear the OP got away relatively unscathed. Experience is sometimes hard earned. I've personally found going out of your way in any sort of incident to apologize in a positive fashion, regardless of fault, garners the best response from the perpetrator. It seems silly, but for some reason taking a stance like that completely dissolves any sort of aggressive defensive mindset and replaces it with sympathy and guilt.

I tried to skitch on a pickup once, and I found out that skitching is harder than it looks.
Pickups are bad vehicles.
Oh and don't pay attention to zelah, his dick is just way bigger than the rest of ours :/

I ALMOST did that to a driver near the office last night. He wasn't planning on stopping at the stop sign but I came around the corner and startled him. Of course the redneck threw his best words. I was going to shout back since I was close enough to the bike path that he wouldn't have been able to turn around to catch me in time with his 3 buddies. It turns out about 50' later, my chain fell off due to low tension and a bump in the road. At that point I was VERY happy I didn't start something.

Apologizing profusely is tantamount to admitting guilt in the eyes of the court. One of these days you're gonna run into judge dread, and he's gonna run over you and then sue you and probably bite off one of your fingers.
Personally I'd go with the bow and arrow.
Far as I'm concerned this is a clear sign that the PDX bike militia is more in need than ever. Stand proud my bicycle brothers, ride united and fight hard.
