How many hours per week?

As I was out riding today, I was thinking about how much I ride per week. I try to put it at least 2 hrs a day. What about everyone else?

I ride about 10 hours a week. An hour every day commuting, and then a few extra hours here and there when I have time. I'm swamped with homework usually, so I don't get out much. If I didn't have school, probably the 30-40 hour region.

I am surprised you put in two hours a day though, I figured someone that was 'wasting roadies' would be riding 10+ hours a day.

It's quality training, not volume of training.

I averaged 43 km a day in '07... if I averaged hours it would probably be 12-14 a week.

Presently I am trying to ride at least an hour a day as part of re-habbing my back.

I somewhat disagree. Most of my major muscle building has been from taking long rides. Most of these rides I averaged about 25KPH by the end of the 6 hours, which I am going to say is fairly low. However, my legs got noticeably larger and more defined. The next few rides I took I was much much faster.

This of course is just my own observations.

Generally 10 miles/1 hour a day. That's home into town and back. I might ride more, or might not ride at all some days.

Wotan - You average 30 miles per hour ?

You and piwonka both need to go and take some remedial math courses.

Pulling off a 5 hour century is a feat and that is only an average of 20 mph, a sub hour 40 requires an average speed of 25 mph.

If you can ride 30 miles in an hour you are in contention to set a new hour record.

At 42 (and a non racer) I am happy with still being able to pull down sub hour 35's (22.5 mph average).

No, I don't. When I originally read piwonka's post I thought he was making a hyper exagerated claim (averaging just over 300mph) so I thought I made an equally ridiculous claim (just under 300mph). When I realised my claim was just under 30mph I deleted it, 'cos people might think I was serious.

That math course might be a good idea.

What the ****. Riding just by itself won't do jack ****. Even if you're sedentary, you eventually plateau and will not be better. If you want to be faster, train by power. Powertap or SRM.

Around 8-12 hours a week. I ride everday to school and work, but the "commute" isn't even over a mile round-trip so some days I'm only on my bike for less than ten minutes total. On the weekends I usually get 2 or more hours per day.
