Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Alright, bumping this thread to start a question instead of opening a new one. I just got my rear Formula overhauled with a pair of Phil bearings. I've heard there's "break in time" since it's 100 percent grease pack, and there's definitely noticeable drag when I spin the wheel axle in my hands, or turn it with one finger. There's uneven spots where things "bind". I'm pretty positive the mechanic didn't **** up because he's got like a decade on the job, and I know I didn't overtighten the nuts into the track end. So when are these things gonna get smooth and buttery (i.e. how many hours or miles of riding)?

It didn't take mine very long at all; maybe 10 or 20 km.

Um, yes it is. The grease won't wash out of the bearing when in contact with water. What did you think I meant?

Sweet, I'll take the wheel off tomorrow and see if it spins okay then.
