A few things can go lighter (there is always weight to be saved!! ;P) - but the Saddle is no WW saddle, you can loose another quarter of a pound but picking up an SLR.
Don't forget grease and air ! :) |

Make sure your F99 is post recall !! |
Why exactly?

Who knows ? But whatever the reason it probably makes him happy or he wouldn't bother doing it. :) |

Fun, something to do, maybe he likes building light bikes, nice to ride, easy to stop, very very responsive, very easy to accelerate, keeps him out of the pub/bar, you know, that kind of thing ?

It is fun sourcing the parts, trying to get the parts for stupid low prices which I do very often. I could have less bikes but be riding way more expensive builds but I can do what other do for 1/2 - 1/3 - 1/4 the cost that they build up and I do it all myself. |
Nice Bike.

weekly updates with pics of the chainring. i can't imagine it would last, but i think it'd be interesting to see how it handles stopping (or even slowing/accelerating for that matter).

i can't understand weight weenies. light bikes are good, but what's the point if it's below uci regulations?

To the OP, nice build. Wish I had as much disposable income as you, but my daughter's education fund is sucking up all the extra pennies from my wallet. As for the bars, I looked at replacing my T2 Wings w/ the carbon Cobra version, but they cost 3x as much and only save 20 grams. Probably better to keep what ya got. |
I was going to go the Cobra route but that does involve getting a new stem, bars and brake lever so I might not go that route but it does look good. I was thinking of getting the Syntace Stratos Zero for the build as it is lighter than what I have and more comfortable. I used to have one on my Tri bike before moving up to the Easton Attach TT bar. The weight on the Stratos is pretty good but to keep the 26.0 bar diameter the ultimate would be the Easton Delta base bar which I might still do. I had that before as well and it was very comfortable but I think that that Cobra would be more comforable on closer to the stem.
How do you like your T2 wing and what is the weight for the size that you have. I really want to clean up the front end a lot more and lower the cockpit a bit.

Do you think the OP is actually going to race in a UCI sanctioned eventon this SS?

I have a lot of F99 stems and all of them are newer or were replaced. The people at Syntace were great during the recall and had great deals on additional stems which I took advantage of to get Syntace stems for all my bikes and then upgraded them all to Ti bolts.

So guys, any suggestions on the front end issue. Should I keep my 91g stem and try to source out a light weight aluminum base bar and keep the 42g 26.0 carbon cross lever or should I go with the F119 stem and ti bolts, Profile Cobra and a new carbon cross lever. Cost wise the first choice would make a lot more sense.
The second choice would be very nice looking I would think but I think the weight would get pushed up more than running a little bit heavier bar in a 26.0 config. I think the Syntace Stratos Zero is not that heavy so I might try to source one of them. I also think that I will switch out this saddle for the Fizik Arione Carbon that I have on my SS Giant build and put my SLR Carbonio saddle on that build to lower the weight of this build by 70g more. |

Very impressive work.

All that on a LANGSTER. HAhahahahaa

Cut it down to a unicycle for the ultimate in weight savings.
|
I think the the T2 wing was ~240 grams so about 20 more than the cobra.
I liked that there was no drop and I needed a 31.8 clamp for my aerobar/stem combo. For the money, there is no reason to change your setup. Even for weight. A really light 31.8 stem is 100g, my carbon lever is about the same weight as your cross lever, and the bar saves 20 grams. You will spend $400 on parts to save *maybe* 40 grams. $10 per gram is really not money well spent. I would rather get an ultralight SLR saddle or maybe a Spinergy front wheel which wold probably drop more weight. |

I would like to get a better bar for the front is the main reason for changing. I really do not like the Profile bars that I have on there. I would also like to have no drop so I might just change it out for the Syntace Stratos Zero when I find one and stick with all the other parts. The other option if it is still available is a Easton Delta bar but it had the upturn cut off which I was not sure about. So it looks like the Syntace is the route to go in a zero. The other big maybe might be a set of Vision basebars but I am really not sure about the flat section and the brake set up.

The Syntace are heavier and since they cant backwards, so your riding position will be altered. With compact geometry, I find I run a longer stem to compensate. I use a 120 on Compact frames, and a 100 or 110 on standard frames. Running this bar may mean you would need to redetermine stem length. The Eastons look like they have LONG extensions and are no ligheter than the Profiles. The Cobras will be stiffer than either due to the 31.8 bar clamp. Based on your note indicating you wanted nicer bars and that was the reason for the upgrade, I think the Cobras would be it. I would if money were no object.
The only reason that I was going to get the Syntace is because it would allow me to still use my current stem and my current brake lever. I have decided to stick with the 26.0 sizing for sure as I will only have to buy bars now and not a stem, bars and brakes. Keeping the same stem will allow me to also switch back to drop bars as I have some 26.0 bars as well. So with that in mind, I will pick between 4 bars, 2 aluminum (Vision alloy basebar or the Syntace Stratos Zero) or 2 carbon (Easton Delta Force or Vision Carbon basebar). Most likely will go with the aluminum bars but who knows. I also have a set of HED flip-lite aerobars and a pair of Oval A910 clip on bars to do a single speed TT bike. I never know what I might do so it might be fun to play around. |

I like the Pedalsoft set up and Oval is doing the same thing now as well. I did see a picture of the bike after looking for a bit but can you send the thread link as I do not think I was viewing the actually thread but just a picture you had posted.
