What your favorite track end?
There are so many different 'drop outs' on track bikes out there, and everyone seems to have a preference for the one that looks/feels/rides just right. What is YOUR favorite, and post a picture if you have one. Campy, shimano, suntour, longshen, surly, etc
I always thought the double cuts looked the sickest and are supposed to be pretty strong http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3035/...55af65958f.jpg |
The only track end I've ever lol'd at are the ones made to look like happy whales.
|
Anything with a built-in tensioner.
|
hello kitty?
the single cutout for me. 3rensho! |

|
Track ends that are deep and real - Samson, baby! :-) 9mm

I like my Campy track ends mostly because they say "BREV CAMPAGNOLO." Other than that, Paul.
|
Anything steel. Aluminum frame, fine, just give me steel drop-outs.

OMG, Are there really track ends that look like happy whales?
Other than that...I'd say I dont really care what the track ends look like. But umm...are those built in tensioners in the wrong way? how are you supposed to tighten those |

But umm...are those built in tensioners in the wrong way? how are you supposed to tighten those Older road frames also have screws like these that 'push' in toward the bike, this was because frame alignment was not as precise then as today, and you could adjust to make the wheel track straight / correctly. |
Yeap, there are whale track ends. I wish someone could dig up the picture, I can't find it.
|
Campy track ends are nice, and have Italian authenticity written all over them, but they are soft and get chewed-up pretty easily.
I prefer Shimano track ends. Even after heavy use they show very little bite. |

Its interesting how these topics are getting recycled. The same question was posted back in February:
http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=387687 and another similar on back in July of 07: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=324426 My favorite track ends: http://www.cyclesdeoro.com/images/In...y/PICT2992.JPG http://www.yellowjersey.org/konno10.gif http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...0/P1030148.jpg tdhk |
My favorite track ends:
http://www.cyclesdeoro.com/images/In...y/PICT2992.JPG I agree with the Nagasawa drop outs, they are my favorite track dropouts. Cann't wait till my wife agrees to let me buy a Nagasawa track frame. |
+1 on nagasawa/vanilla
as hyped as vanilla may be, they do fantastic things. my indy fab drop outs are going to be pretty great. |
|
sure the built in tensioners are useful but those ends are the ugliest.
|
Can anyone comment on these?
http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/4337/pg052tv0.jpg Personally I like them because they're kind of like the ones on some of the old paramount track bikes. I might file them down on the ends a little bit to accommodate a chain tensioner a little easier. |
Holographic foil on a disc wheel is a terrible idea. Even standing still that thing just blew my mind.
