I watched the video in question (with sound off at work, you really get a feel from only body language that these guys think they run the whole fixed gear show) and I think I can understand why people get upset about this kind of thing. The ratio of bike posing to bike riding is about 98:2. As an example, I really like art and graphic design, but I'm not going to buy a book with a bunch of dudes dressed up in bright colors posing with their powerbooks.

I think that, and they're really nice when you're riding into the sun if you don't have sunglasses. Since the brim is short but points downward, you can still see ahead of you but don't have to worry about having the thing blow off of your head.

I've actually only had mine for a short time, but it's a nice thing to keep in the bag because I'm now glad I have it. Fits nice under a helmet, too, and keeps my head warm on those cooler mornings.

Lots of words today. Sorry. Just waiting for 5:00 and that nice tailwind!

I, in no way shape or form condone nor support the people in that video, but the whole video is about a photo shoot for a book so of course there's going to be more posing than riding. As far as who is this book being marketed towards? I think its for the people who are in it, to those that know those that are in it and to those super fanatic newly fixed gear riders that think they're not fully integrated into the scene if they don't have all the accessories "required" to be a cool fixed gear bike rider.

Oh yeah and to anyone who plans their wardrobe before they head out for a bike ride.

That song is ****ing rad. I love how the solitary guitar string ends up coupled with the beginning singing notes.

Hey didn't you know? "RAD" is making a comeback! All the hipsters use it nowadays.

you have GOT to be f^^cking joking! I hate that song so much... i've been thinking some dark thoughts on what i'd like to do to the "artists" who created it. this thread has got me thinking about "hipsters" and what they are. The trackbike hipsters are the same people who rocked spock haircuts and white belts 10 years back. basically metrosexual males who wear girl pants and have fat GFs. Seattle is a haven.

But that dude in the beginning who walks in actually rides a lot and organizes races. He is not a hipster.

Take up boxing...something to work out all that anger. I LOVE that your tag under your name is "Don't Hate." How appropriate. But, I want you to tell me just why you hate the song? Is it bad? Is it noise to you? Does it get on your nerves? There must be a reason, other than "waaaaah, it's used in a video I don't like."

.
So basically a "Hipster" is someone who does something because its popular and that's what other people are doing so he/she will emulate as much as possible to fit in.

This picture is from your Flickr account, claiming its you so hopefully it is.

(Mod removed pic)

Clearly you were never affected by trying to fit in or copying someone else's style. because the whole punk scene was started by you so therefore you were never a follower.

Its time to grow up man because from your post it seems as though you're still that 16 year old kid in the picture.

Sorry. Different concept, different purpose for filming.

Rollers are not the same as actual riding.

This really isn't the same concept at all.

First of all, these guys actually ride. At least 7 of those people in the video are local messengers (except Chaz who won the whole shindig, he's still messing but in SF).

Second, it's not promoting something for sale, it's documenting something that already happened.

And yeah, rollers technically aren't "actual riding" but they are closer to it than posing for cameras with your bike. No one posing in this video had a bike near them.

Yo! actually the whole punk scene was started by the guy whose pic you posted (along with many like him). That pic was taken in the early, early '80s (if you take out your punk rock calculators you'll find that was pert much the begining) while creating fliers, throwing shows in run down buildings, touring with bands (alot of which you all know and may love) and basically paving the way for everyone today to walk around looking like the jack*sses they do without getting beat up. So if you're trying to call b.s. on homeboy... try again dog.

Punk died in the early 80's and got replaced with post-punk. Nice try.

If you read my original post, i never once put down hipsters (except for looking ridiculous)... i don't care. i mainly mention the song. Yes that mohawk ^ picture of me when is when i was 16. the picture and my flickr is public, but its for my friends to enjoy. I think its funny..

The reason i jokingly hate on the song is purely because it is a silly gay song with ridiculous lyrics repeated over and over in an annoying way. i believe it was written that way to grate on your nerves. They succeeded.

edit: and BTW ,"theTank", what a little muppet you are for taking what i said so seriously as to go digging around in my flickr acct to find a picture of me to use in you defensive little rebuttle. you make me laugh. Nerd.

Nice attempt to flex on me bro, but your comment was pretty far off point. Maybe next time take a couple minutes (or hours if needed), lean back, take a deep breath, and wait for your ritalin to kick in before replying. "nice try"
