I think it's possible to define a hipster. Here's my go at it: A hipster is a person who strives to be authentic by appropriating other sub-cultures.

Yeah, it's all good fun. On that day, I'd just finished a 40 mile road ride, came home, got message about alleycat ride, hopped on the San Jose and got there for the start. Won it, too.

Hipsters are the worst! Ugh! With their clothes and their music and their bikes! The worst! Who do they think they are??

I see more 30somethings in spandex and 10 speeds than I do 20somethings with tight jeans and aerospoked fixed gears. I say we reconsider who we are calling hipsters.

I hate that sticker so much! "One Fewer Car" would be fine, but . . . AUGH!

You have some sense of style and decent musical appreciation, but there are some glaring holes in your hipster resume. Don't worry. In this case holes in your resume are a positive thing, because it is a job that you probably don't want.

Hipster may have once been a term for describing a certain type of person who fits into a certain sub-culture. Now it is just a fashion. Yes, we are "infested" with them in SF, but these days it seems that it is just a culture of fashion and nothing else. I have seen groups of middle schoolers wearing skinny jeans, big glasses, 80s shirts, and just generally having that rockstar/junkie look. Similarly i have seen frat boy types that have obviously adopted the fashion, only with designer clothes that are super expensive, but have that vintage/thrift store look.

It's a fashion that is being fed to them just as skateboard culture and fashion was fed to the masses in the 90s.
