And then last week...it happened to me. I saw these two guys with heavy tatoos, stringy hair, no helmet, platform pedals and flat bars. Hit me like a ton of bricks "so that's what they're talking about"

Am I close?

[by the way...no judgement here, except for the lack of helmet]

OMG theres leik 5000 threads like this USE SEARCH FUNC NOOB.

on a serious note... whats a heavy tattoo? heavily laden under tattooed duress?

yo son, hipster is anti-hippy in more ways than the pant leg cuff. maybe this generation smokes less reefer, but they definitely smoke less love... it's mostly haters hating other haters. i'm not going to judge you, son, if you have a tight cuff. however, i will instinctively process how difficult the task of using this pants must be, and be left with a bad taste in my mouth. props for making a cultural and most likely historical impression though. that is some love for the haters hating other haters.

seriously though, the clothing style is mad homogenized son. no one wants to be labeled. hopefully in 10yrs the television shows won't make fun of the generation. many people have succumbed to elaborate forearm ink, with coins in their ears and what have you. these things will be surefire sore thumbs and indicate to those of us that held out, that the man with the ephemeral junk on his arm once tried to be an individual by sweating other individuals and is-as a result-not an individual. white people are so weird. this time is just like disco, man... leave the cool to my black brothers and i and to the james dean characters and a select few puerto ricans. if things are cool, it means you have to be concerned that things could potentially be hot. right? i don't like the police, but those dudes love to pick me up, take my photo, do my fingerprints all that ****. you ain't gangster because you mowed the lawn and got a wheelset with under 6 spokes, son. you're gangster because you're gangster. and if you were gangster, probably, you would secretely wish you were less gangster/more white so you could score a lady with some manners. if you want to be gangster, you're not gangster son. if you try to be cool, you might as well be a narc.

like i say, most peoples are just zombies and copycats, son.

Oh no, mid-50s at least, otherwise I guess I'm quite old. Maybe that's why I haven't been too tempted by the deep-V trend for my singlespeed. Ordered some for my son just last week though. But he's in HS - he needs some cool wheels.

c0urt, I'm in Huntsville, AL. The Rocket City. Critical Mass every month as well as an alleycat. Lots of good bike polo, too.

I'll post the next alleycat time. Worth showing up just for the pizza and beer afterwards.

Here ya go...

By the way, I'm 40, tattooed, ride a fixie (albeit one with a sloping top tube *GASP*) and wear a helmet and spandex shorts with my solid colored, sleeveless jerseys.:thumb::p

Word

The Cure has been rocking my world for well over 20 years. Hell, I even wore Vans, and too tight 501s while spending my weekends at a velodrome... I guess I'm a Pre-POMO recovering hipster.

Mikeymk1 06-19-08 09:55 AM

This is so ridiculous. Why do people in here (bfssfg) obsess over finding out "What a hipster is?". Why must people always put labels on other groups of people? Because some dress differently then others or look out of the norm, we must single them out? I live in Brooklyn and some say that alone makes me a hipster. It's so annoying! I in a neighborhood in NYC where it is cheaper and less crowded so I am a hipster. I ride a fixed gear because its to damn expensive to have a car, AND I wear tight jeans so I'm a hipster. It is ********!

News flash! Riding fix gear is HIP! I don't care if you have "been riding FG for years bro". Currently, it is very trendy to ride a fixed gear bike. It's fun, the maintenance is easy, some bikes are gorgeous, and GAS SUCKS! Lets drop it, what do you say???

I say all of this knowing that in a week or two, some other yahoo will post the same exact thread WITHOUT USING THE SEARCH TOOL.
