It's a twist shifter for the internal gear hub.

This Colnago above is a classic, yet it just needs a little bit more work done to be authentic.
When this frame came out it was almost impossible to buy an all-black tubular tyre. Also, it's running a Super Record road headset instead of the track version. The saddle also is far too modern. It needs a black Turbo or Rolls. Finally, the group set is mixed - Record seatpost, hubs, cranks, but Super Record pedals and headset. Chainring appears to be a Sugino? I'm only saying all this coz I'm jealous |

Not set up SS at the moment, but I think she's def got some class:
I was tossing a similar idea around in my head with my steamroller frame... That's an awesome set-up fixed or with 7/8 speeds. |
I spotted a classic orange Merckx at the track tonight, almost everything period correct except the cranks (current Record) and saddle. Thing was a dream come true... the Sherrif Stars topped it off.

Marqueemoon nails it, the Della Santa and Ira Ryan are two of my favorite classy rides ever.... I'd lose the starfish crank on the Della Santa but otherwise completely perfect.
Handlebar bag on the Coho is a Berthoud. |
Those Mavic cranks appearently have the lowest Q of any modern crank.
|
Don't now that I'd really call them a modern crank. They haven't been made since...?
That Ira Ryan is excellent. I want generator hub! |
My ex-Veloce which I sold (there's only so much you can do with a brakeless bike...)
