Black is the new chrome/silver/polished. This is my favorite bike pic ever posted:

1972 Schwinn Paramount, pretty hard to beat in the "classy" department.

Edit: I'm getting burned for that seat for sure. Dang.

Black lugs are nice.

my goodness, this thread is pure inspiration!

i think this bike is the epitome of a modern classic look.

I don't understand how people seem to read "classy" as track or tarck. Yes, there are classy track bikes (like that Paramount a few posts back), including new but inspired builds. A stock, entry-level track bike or even a relatively tasteful take on tarck still doesn't strike me as "classy." I especially don't see how the last bike qualifies as "classic."

And I seriously hope that choosing one's own pic as a "favorite bike pic ever posted" is supposed to be a joke, however weak it may be.

ZiP0082 08-29-08 11:24 AM

yes, but i mean, for that matter, i feel like "modern classic" is an oxymoron. (that being said, the orange tires are sick!)

This thread makes me think that in order to own a classy bike you either have to have disproportinately long arms, or a total lack of bike fitting knowledge.

Also, that's a raw titanium frame. Sick indeed.

Yeah, kinda, though I think there are plenty of bikes that take obvious inspiration from true classics (e.g. lots of what Rivendell does, regardless of the strong feelings the brand may elicit). I don't mean to hate on anyone's bike (well, okay, some bikes, but the last one looks pretty slick), but I wish tarck bikes would go in a tarck thread, and ideally, we'd even have a thread for cookie-cutter "Windsor" Hours. A girl can dream.

I think that bike epitomizes what is currently pretty trendy, not that it isn't a nice enough bike.

9 pages of misuse and abuse of terminology.
Classy does not mean classic.
Reese Witherspoon does not equal Greta Garbo.

Some very nice bikes, though, but only a few here are classic.

You know it says "classy" in the thread title, right?

MadeInItaly 08-29-08 02:57 PM

That is a CLASSIC FAIL.............

Yes, I do. And that's what I'm saying: Some people are flipping over the word classy. The word, according to the intended context of the original poster, is a poor choice of word.

Still some nice bikes -- some classy, some classic, some cool, but some just bland and boring.

Don't rush to a conclusion, slice. You're timing is off for the pun you intended.

Regardless, lots of the bikes here fail both the classy and classic criteria. It's hard to blame the thread title for that.

Jabba Degrassi 08-29-08 03:34 PM

Yeah, I was in no way implying that the over-abundance of tarck in this thread was in any way, shape or form either classy or classic.
