and rear depends on where you put the wheel [an 80mm to 85mm is best - we think] we are working on this issue and intend to get a quick solution for those who do not want to ride fixed |

that is interesting but on the jury we were going for massive tire clearance [over 40c] for use with fixed gear brake option is going to be fine with two different solutions the old school campy style drop bolt or beefy longer reach wider caliper and we will stock both they just did not come on the container as we thought they would so they will be in next shipment or we will air them I think a lot of buyers will use this as a fixed gear setup but some may want brakes of course, Fantom Uno will have canti - for those that know they want brakes always and like the look of canti or mini v [with posts] |

you have any photos directly from the side? Be nice to see the amount of clearance |
Ugh.
i was waiting to get a Jury to replace my steamroller, just for the brake cable stops and fender braze ons Now you're telling me I need to get brakes that don't even exist yet? 70-90mm brake reach = FAIL! Not to mention that a caliper with that long arms is going to suck. why couldn't you have designed it around a extra-long-reach brake like the Tektro R556 or put cantis on it? Designing it like this is absoltuely ********. |
went a little overboard on the tire clearance i guess
|
Yeah I had to cancel my order for my two frames unfortunately. A+ service at BikeIsland for letting me know before they shipped.

I thought the jury and steamroller have the same geometry. and if they do, wouldnt a standard long-reach caliper work like the tektro R356 work? Or am I missing something.
thanks but the brake bridge placement must differ by several CM. though i don't see how it's possible to increase tire clearance that much on the FORK (i.e. longer blades) without shortening the headtube. It doesn't look like changing the crown could have that much effect. i wonder if the frame angles are off because of it. |
canti's would have the ultimate win on this frame. just take it to someone who can braze?

Designing it like this is absoltuely ********. Well Actually Tektro makes a drop bolt that allows the R556 to be used with this design and we wre supposed to get those with the frame; but the factory left them out The issue is getting more for real big tires and being able to mount brakes if desired and run fixed if desired and not having canti posts that would look like crap if bike is run without brakes It is a tall order - and the only way is to then have super long reach brakes available for those that want ultra big tires AND drop bolts for those that want skinny or medium width tires. Remember, when using the R556 you should not use real fat tires as there will not be enough clearance. With real big tires you need canti or real long reach side pulls [since we ruled out canti so that the frame looks good when run fixed - it is super long reach with the wide tires] For those that know they want canti to start with we have the Fantom Cross Uno on the way - which is a different design |

Be nice to see the amount of clearance There is tons of room - even with 35c tires mounted; so you can easily go 42c And still have lots of room for fenders - and the fenders be spaced to allow for no problems http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...tor/juryc4.jpg http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...r/juryc5-2.jpg |
This is a really sweet bike. It looks like a mountain bike, but the tubing is slim like a road bike. The fork rake is a gentle curve so it doesn't look like some goofy conversion. And I love that fork crown...mmm! Clearance for beefy tires is the cherry on top.

will a standard reach brake work for the front wheel? If not, how big would we need for just the front wheel?
|
Is there any way we can see Jury with a skinny tires? It looks great with a wide tire by the way.
|
are there any pictures of the cross uno to see right know?
|
or, right now.

Ugh, I've just canceled my order. I guess the need for really big tires pushes this frame out of my usability. IMHO, if I want really big tires (>35c), I'd want cantis. I was also disappointed with the long chainstays, but I was willing to live with it.

i wonder if the frame angles are off because of it. has making that super-clearance fork affected the frame angles at all? I see from your pictures that the TT isn't level like a steamroller's. |
that bike is sick. no need for it in LA, not for me anyway... but i like it a lot.

There is almost no effect on Geo from the wider stays but CS are a bit longer fork blades a bit longer as there must be room for use of wider tires [which are also taller] |
