Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? And also, whats the difference between machined side walls and non-machined side walls

machined are for brakes. non-machined are more for brakeless. you can still use brakes on them but they are not as ideal.

i live about 10 minutes from that shop xD
lots of people go in and buy fixies and dont wear helmets, have brakes or even have clips/straps...
its kinda sad, but meh
santa cruz is getting a big boom in fixie riders right now...
damn hipsters...

oh and sorry about saying your straps looked good...
it was late and i didnt really look at them close enough xD
more psyched about having the same pedals as you =P

I got silver Velocity Vs / Formulas from Bells for just over $200 on ebay. At first I was going to get some Fusions, machined front and non-machined rear, but there are so many deep V sets out there at good prices right now that I just went with a stock set, which I am guessing are machine-built. I figured the silver machined rims would be the most versatile in the long run, plus I think the machining looks fine on a silver rim, regardless of whether I have a brake (I have a front brake).

My lbs looked them over and told me not to bother with tensioning/re-trueing until after I ride them for a while, and then only if they start pinging or actually go out of true. They seem fine.

Also - I've read some gripes about Bell's delivery times but I bought on a Friday or Saturday, they shipped on the following Monday and I had them on Wednesday. I got several emails where they had printed a shipping label, then canceled it, then printed it again, but it didn't affect the delivery time.
