I'm really lost between the two machined and non-machined.
On my Bianchi Pista, I've added brakes for the front wheel, does that mean for the front wheel, i should get machined and on the back, i should get non-machined or what?

Please help me out, i need your suggestions!

3. The wheelset comes with all the parts you need. Just remove your old wheels and install these. Done. I'm not positive but you can probably use the cog and lockring from your pista. You just have to make sure all the threadings are the same. If not then you'll not a cog and locking with threading that matches the Formula hubs.

On a side note, I think those lower profile Alex rims look much better than the V's. Everyone is riding around on V's these days.

Oh and I won't be the only one to tell you this, but if you're riding that thing fixed, invest in some kind of foot retention.

The thing about the velocity deep v's is that they look pretty good and i've asked around and everyone says that they're very durable.

And what do you mean by some kind of foot retention, do you mean toe clippings?

Toe clips or clipless pedals.

i'm also guilty of wanting deep v's. but i'm 200 pounds and ride street.

anyone else has ideas or suggestions on whether those ebay velocity deeps are good enough for my stock pista? And does anyone know any good websites or lbs in LA that have good prices on the velocity deep vs?

they'll fit on your pista, regardless. it's just a matter of buying them. they're supposed to be really strong but real heavy. i'm getting them because yes for looks and they're also real strong and i'm very careless.

i've never heard of bicycle outlet. those are good prices. they're usually like 250 via bikesmith on ebay.
so yea, no lockring means you can't just put them on. you'll need to take the cog and lockring off your alex's and put them on the velocity's. let the LBS do it for you. they're machined for brakes if you want that, too.

oh and get toe clips. yes they're essential for stopping if riding brakeless, but also if you're pedaling really fast and your foot slips, bad things happen. most common are mks steel toe clips that cost like 15 bucks ish. get new pedals while you're at it, like some mks sylvans (track, stream, touring, gr-9, etc). that's just the most common. that's if you want to wear regular sneakers while riding.

clipless pedals are another story, and another couple hundred bucks.

A wheelset is only as durable as the skill of the wheelbuilder.

I wouldnt get those pedals. get the regular mks track pedals. the reason being, the touring pedals dont have the spike on them to allow you to flip them up easily to get your foot in. basically, the tour pedals will be a pain in the ass to get your feet in quickly and easliy. mks track pedals ftw.

yea track's have that lil flip thing and are back in stock at most distributers. if you can get them, get them. when i ordered pedals i couldn't get track's so i just got the touring pedals and they work just fine. and they grip my sambas and vans real nice.

i'm just saying, just because a pedal says "track" doesn't mean those are the ones you HAVE to get. dimension makes a "track" pedal too that look pretty neat.

The pedals that come on the Pista are honestly just there for test-ride purposes. You know how road bikes usually don't come with pedals? It's hard to test ride a pedal-less bike, so they throw some crap one's at you. Pedals, clips and straps should run you about $50, and it's a good investment. Everything is more connected that way and you can gain confidence (especially with no brakes).

I have deep V's and they are marked with an Australian workers initials, when he built the wheels, and an acronym for what spokes and hubs he used... and it says "do not remove this sticker"... don't know if the eBay wheels are built by their bike shop or if they bought a bulk amount from Australia, but that's where Velocity is made.

I love my deep v's, but I have bladed spokes and Velocity hubs (not Formula) and the wheels are 130 grams lighter than the formula/velocity set. Reference the "my dawes from bikesdirect" posting for pics.

LBS should install your old cog and lock-ring for $10 or less, but you'll need rim tape, and then to re-use your old tubes and tires or to buy new ones. Keep in mind that though the Alex rimset from Bianchi isn't great, it can yield $150 bones on Craigslist, especially with tubes and tires, which can shoulder some of the cost of the deep v's, cog, and pedals/clips.

i just bought the mks sylvan tracks at my lbs along with some cheap toe clips.
got the toe clips for 7 bucks, i'll take pics of my bike after i install everything

Dude you should totally just get the Deep Vs if you like the way they look. They can defnitely handle your 200 pounds, Check out Tony Fast from the Bootleg Sessions vids. He rips - up and down curbs and stairs without any problem. I know a few big guys that ride them and swear by their strength. If they aren't light then at least they have that going for them. I love mine. In fact, my new purple ones for my new BK build will be here tomorrow. Stoked!!

and whats that metal piece under the front of the plastic toe clip? why not just get metal/plastic toe clips? whats the attraction to plastic?

and the straps are fine that direction but alot of people run them so the excess strap faces down

oh and enjoy your money pit. next thing to go will probably be your saddle.

i love the title of this thread, yet inside there's instructions how to set up clips and straps. cmon, its really not that hard to look at pictures and figure it out

The metal plate between the pedal and the clips came with the toe clips i bought. Should i just remove that metal plate and put the screws through the clips and pedal?
