Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Heh, the best part of that article, and the only thing that redeems him is this:

"... As the police gathered the mounds of bikes, they also found cocaine, crack cocaine, about 15 pounds of marijuana and a stolen bronze sculpture of a centaur and a snake in battle."

generally the toronto police auctions off confiscated items through ebay (https://stores.ebay.ca/Police-Auctions-Canada), but given the amount of bikes they're probably going to do a lot auction or an event, not online sales.

i could never figure out where the money goes, so if you're prone to compunctions of conscience or your morals demands some feel-good ending, you might be SOL. normally i'd in that boat, but who knows what treasures the troll has stashed away...

I really do wonder why somebody did not whip up on him. They knew he stold or had bikes stolen. Then go in to get your stolen bike and he demanded money to return the bike to the person who owned it. Looks like someone should have adjsuted him a little bit.

It's like crackheads are the only ones who really get the message of Mad Max.

Do you really believe that is why he was stockpiling bikes? I think he was merely a crack head thief that stold bikes.

His store did get firebombed once. Totally trashed the top floor and killed these vicious pit bulls he used to keep around for when people came to get their bike returned.

He was really careful as he knew how much he was hated, and from what I've heard the guy could scrap. He was a former cop in a soviet state I believe

Same way some people are obsessive compulsive about shop lifting, he loved to steal bikes. Even to the point of having the mentally ill do the dirty work for him. he may be crazy, and by no means do I condone stealing bikes... but he has over 2,500 bikes? stolen? are you kidding me?

I would like to sit in a room a talk with a guy who rents garages around the city to house stolen bikes, that conversation would be interesting!

That was so he could pay his army of crackhead bike thieves in crack. Cuts out the middle-man.
